I own three and even though I have tried to like them I find them less practical and less accurate than autos. Anyone else feel this way?
BTW thinking about selling a couple and buying another auto

I used to not like them, then I inherited a Colt Python and a Ruger Super Blackhawk... I've developed an addiction.

Very few are left-hand friendly. Rounds are very inefficient for the size/weight/capacity.

My S&W 40-1 in .38 is pretty nice and handles +P..........fits in the pocket as well

Love my autos, but revolvers have an elegance autos don't share.
You have to go out of your way to find a "classy" auto, not so with revolvers. Old school will always be cool |

My S&W 681 is much more accurate than any semi-auto I've ever owned.
Of course, that may be due to operator error.

Had a K-frame Model 10. Didn't like the grip/trigger position, and .38 SPL is kind of a useless round compared to 9mm . For some reason I still want a J-frame Model 36 though, lol. Need to talk myself out of that one. But obviously the big caliber ones are cool because it's the only practical way to deliver that sort of firepower out of a handgun (classifying Desert Eagles as "impractical").

Having owned a "snub" .38 Special revolver for CCW, I'd rather have a .32 or .380 auto pistol instead. I honestly don't see a point in .38 special & below caliber revolvers, other than nostalgia. .357 & .44 mag revolvers are good "woods guns", reasonably sized for the amount of power produced per round. If I felt I needed anything larger than that I'd just carry a short barreled shotgun w/slugs or a lightweight short barreled rifle.
So basically I feel like revolvers really only serve a practical purpose as woods guns & for backpacking - for defense against cougars, bears, etc. You likely won't need the capacity of an auto anyways since in most defensive situations against predators you won't be able to get more than a few shots off before they're on top of you chewing your face off. In that case caliber matters more than capacity - you need something hard hitting, that can punch through meat/bone to hit the vital organs. Personally I'd like to own a Ruger Redhawk in .44 mag, stainless with a 5.5" barrel, for a woods gun and for backpacking. If I felt I needed anything larger than that, I'd just bring an 18" barreled 12 gauge with a folding stock, loaded with solid (non-expanding) slugs. If that doesn't work, then being eaten by a wild animal must just be fate I suppose lol. |

To get mindblowing accuracy out of the you have to shoot them like a bolt action rifle. Go for the surprise trigger break.

They have outlived their usefulness. People can buy them for the unique, cool factor, but I don't understand using them for carry or defense.

Yeah been thinking for sometime about why do I even keep them and I went shooting yesterday and took my CZ-p01 and my Ruger SP101. The CZ holds 14 rounds and the Ruger holds 5, the CZ shoots groups at 15 yards and the Ruger shoots paterns

I like two kinds of revolvers:
Very large caliber ones (preferably scoped), and snubnosed concealment style ones. I carry a Glock 19, though. |

Different strokes and all that I guess. I find the older I get, the more I like them. Perfect carry choice for the farm, usually loaded with a few rounds of shotshells.

I've got a 6" Ruger GP100. Followed by my Sig Traditional 1911, it's the most accurate handgun I own.
I was shooting .357 Mag handloads a few days ago and nailing bottles at about 80 yards. The gun is extremely accurate and built like a tank. Plus, it can shoot black powder :) What's not to like? |
