I'm talking about Glock, S&W M&P, and Springfield XD mainly. Not into Taurus, Sig, and so on.
Anyway, I was thinking of getting either a full size competition model like G34, or a carry model like a G26 for my next pistol. Got one of the Austrian made G19's that came in about 5 years ago and it shoots great. |

In before 5 pages of glock fanboys
And there is no all around "best". Just which one suits YOU the best since you're the one that will be shooting it. |
|
Glock owner here but not what you would call a fan boy.
Buy what trips your trigger. |
|
I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I have Glocks and an M&P.
|
|
I have had Glocks, M&P's, and XD's and all were good pistols. M&P's fit my hands the best. Figure out which fits you the best and you should be good.

Glock or M&P but I prefer the M&P.

Walther ppq or the new Steyr l9 both have far better triggers than any of the other polymer
striker fired pistols |

My choice is the Springfield XDm's. It's what feels the best to me, and it's what I shoot the best with.

Glock or S&W M&P.
Pick one in a caliber other than .40. ETA: Also strongly consider a Gen 3 Glock over a Gen 4 Glock unless you're specifically looking for a "stock service pistol" that has modifications that wouldn't normally be allowed for use in certain competitions. They still make the Gen 3 for a reason. |
|
The Glock is probably the best, but I can't get used to the grip angle.
Second place, M&P. Third, XD series. By the way, I only own the XD. Go figure. |

There is no perfect pistol. Accept this truth. Try many, find the one you like. Shoot it lots. Get better. Shoot it more. Don't like it anymore? Try a different one. |

Inb4 everyone posts about what they own is the best which frankly is the correct answer. What you like the most is what is the subjective best.
There really only so many factors to a pistol. Capacity, going bang everytime, sights, grip, trigger. Some of that can be changed anyhow making it even more relative. I could say my Beretta is better than your Glock, but it really determines nothing in making me right or wrong, its all subjective and all relative. Any testing you do will not conclusively determine anything. |

I own numerous Glocks and M&P's but carry a Glock. The Glock has a more durable finish, better trigger and functional reliability in my range experience. The grip of the M&P does feel a little better in the hand though.

RAMLINE .22! I have one, never shot it, but I KNOW it's the best!

Diversity is a wonderful thing.
But having said that, I'll take pretty much anything in the HK line.

I've shot XDs and own two Glocks and an M&P. Glocks are my favorite followed by the M&P. I don't like the XDs at all, and I don't like the stock trigger on the M&P.

It's a really sweet pistol, but it's grip did not feel comfy. Still glad a friend was able to let me give it a run, and what great accuracy and a very sweet trigger. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Fuck, not this again...
That being said, I have an XDm and a M&P. I like both. They both offer adjustable back straps. Both shoot well. |

You ask a question like this and your gonna open a can of worms. Heres what I can say for sure;
IMO Glocks are the best. By best I mean most reliable. I have several reason for choosing Glocks over other pistols. Im a LEO as well as a firearms instructor for my department. I see guns do a lot of things that most average shooters will never see because I train a large number of officers. Let me tell you, Since we've went to Glocks, I don't see near as many problems as I use to with other semi-auto's. Around 2008, S&W approached 2 big agencies in my state and told them to T&E the M&P .40. Both agencies were carrying Glocks at the time. One agency replaced Glocks with the M&P and the other did not. With in 3 Years, the agency that had switched to the M&P was back to carrying Glocks. When I asked one of their instructors why they went back to Glocks he said, "Way to many issues with the M&P that we weren't seeing before". Having said that, I have owned XD's, SIg's, H&K's and many other poly pistols. Some I like, like the XD and some I don't. However, Glocks only use 34 parts, the're very easy to maintenance and find replacement parts for. There is a reason why most law enforcement agencies carry Glocks. THEY WORK. |

Go with the Glock 26, you won't regret it. When I go running, I carry my 27 in a IWB holster.
|
|
I own XD45s and intend to get XDM45s in the future.
If I was starting over I'd get the M&P45s. |
