Don Malarkey lives down the block from me.
Still drives BTW......drives a dodge caravan van from his nursing home and back from Safeway to get his bread, milk, cheese, and butter. Amazing guy... very proud to have met him and shook his hand and got his picture. |

Not Band of Bro's - but this past weekend was Military appreciation day at the UM game. One of the honorary co-captains was David Thatcher. Mr. Thatcher was the engineer on the Ruptured Duck for the Doolittle raid. He is one of 4 surviving raiders.

My grandpa's cousin is one of three still alive from the battle at metz he was wounded by a mortar. when me and my brother talked to him as few years ago he just had a piece of the shrapnel removed from his foot.
Left. Carl Strom. 36th Teaxas Division. Fought in the campaign to take Monte Casino in Italy. During the opening assault on the Rapido River, every single man is his platoon was killed or wounded except two.
Right. Forrest Johnson. 95th ID. All but sixteen of his original company were killed or wounded in the push to take fortress Metz, France. Let us not forget, even after they are gone. 
F.L. Johnson, displaying the flag his company captured in Hamm Germany from Gestapo Headquarters. Of the 190 men from his company, all but 17 were killed or wounded. Mr. Johnson is one of 3 living members of his unit, a great American, infantryman, and friend. |

He died a natural death, unlike some other WWII vets lately. RIP Soldier.
