Isn't burning cardboard a good way to start a chimney fire anyway?

Did that once with a friend. Round went off while he was on the phone with his fiancee, they were getting married the next day. That was interesting.

Is it too late to add OP to my Arfcom Deadpool list for this year?

When I was much younger....like half my age now, I took a rifle cartridge, pulled the bullet, emptied the powder, and put the brass case over a fire. The primer went off with all the force and sound of a nuclear blast. I swear.
Never did anything so foolish ever again. Congratulations! Ya beat me!!! |

Yep. Lots of noise. Will fling hot coals. No danger of GSW. |

Your fortunate. I was standing around a bonfire when a round burned off. The case had enough force to puncture a round hole in my face and I had to go the ER for stitches. That was 20 years ago and I still have a round piece of cartilage scar under my eye.
Without a doubt it would have blinded me. Anyone who thinks there is not enough force to seriously hurt you is a fool. This was a large bonfire and I have no idea who threw the round in. |
|
I wonder if the steel case could hold more pressure before the burst making it more dangerous?

The brass will go flying and it could put you eye out or cause some serious damage if it hit you in the face. |

We used to do it on camping/hunting trips all the time. Granted it was just .22's You wait until the new guy gets to stumbling drunk. Call him over to the fire and say, "Hey watch this!". They see you throw a handful of live rounds in the fire and freak out. It sobers them right up. Except for the one guy who fell into the GD fire. We had to roll his dumbass into the river to put him out. Never did see him again after that trip. |

Update:
Hearing back to normal . Normally, I do just throw the boxes away (500ct wolf box), but we just moved into a new house. Had very little scrap paper laying around to make a fire and thought "Hey, what could go wrong? Funny thing was right about the time I was moving a couple logs in the fire I was thiinking wow, wouldn't that be crazy if there was a round I missed still in the box? Not 2 seconds later BOOM!!! I had also been around camp fires before when someone tossed in a round so I was familiar with what can happen. I think because my head was actually about 2ft from the blast zone inside the tunnel of boom it made the sound quite a bit more spirited. Imagine if that were a 30.06 or bigger, wow. |
