Another idea that originated from Arfcom from our want of diesel gas sipping cars seen on mtorweek today. Chevrolet will offer for 2014 the Cruze model 4 door sedan with a Turbo Diesel rated at 46mpg and a MSRP of $17,200 but not sure if that price is for the diesel or a Gas engine?
Looks like Detroit is listening to Arfcom and giving us what we wanted! My excitement sits with other manufacturers following and we can purchase a similar Honda or Nissan model or diesel option for probably $2-$3,000 more if/when they come out with their comparable model. Looking foward to hear why Arfcom hate these and we will not buy these now that they are available at an affordable price.. If they were handing those out for free and including a supermodel of my choice that could deep throat a giant eel, I'd slap the model in the mouth, set the car on fire and piss on the front door of the dealership.
Fuck GM. |
|
Base price of the diesel is $25810
ETA: The gasser gets 42. So you pay 7k more for 4 more mpg. That's a shitload of gas. |
|
Cruze has better HP and torque numbers than the Jetta TDI. Jetta does 0-60 in 8.0, so I imagine that the cruze will have a similar number.
|
|
I guess "arfcom" forgot GM's bailout then? I haven't, I won't own one.

WTF is a Cruze gonna do for me? My 3K Escort gets almost the same mileage and for the cost savings, I can drive dive years on what I saved at the dealership; and its gasoline, no diesel mechs needed.
Now if they got me a Suburban 4x4 that gets 46 mpg with a flex fue/ or miltifuel motor and a 15K# tow rating and a 4K# internal payload with a body that wont implode the first time you hit a trail.... |

I get my news from Arfcom. I'll take chili either way. My wife doesn't eat beans at all, so our chili has no beans. I have less body hair than most Arfcommers wives. I get by just fine with an electric. |
|
The next comparable car is what? The VW Jetta? What does a Jetta sticker at?
Earlier this year when I was truck browsing, a 2013 truck could have a sticker at say $35K, but you could haggle it down to $27K or $28K out the door. So a $25K sticker on a 4 door diesel sedan is probably less than $20K OTD. |

Sorry, but if they're not giving them away for free, count me out.

Combined fuel economy will not be near 46. IIRC, the city fuel economy is only about 29MPG, and the average is somewhere around 35 or so.
Not bad, don't get me wrong, but not all that much to write home about. |
|
I wish you luck if you bought GM.
I also hope you get the thing paid for before the design flaws GM won't or can't fix get to be a bother. |
|
Any aftermarket performance parts available yet?
Do they come in stick shift? How about a hatchback? |

Would much rather see a diesel in a mid-sized or full-sized model.
When your gasoline-fueled compact car is already getting 40+ MPG, there really isn't much savings in going to a diesel. |
|
Screw GM. Their track record on building small cars sucks. The volt is a huge bust so now they are trying the diesel that many were asking for in the first place. Either way, I'm not buying GM........ ever.
|
|
Does this diesel engine have to take the urea stuff to supposedly cut down on emissions?
I've heard of other diesel autos having a "limp home mode" when it runs out of urea. That would suck! |
|
I am waiting for them to release the Colorado with a diesel.

The highway has a few BIG hills. I think if it was flat interstate the entire time it would be pushing 56-57mpg I also don't drive over 55, yes thats the speed limit |

I don't remember asking for a diesel powered micro car, A light pick-up yes.
There is no way I would ever drive something like a cruz. |
|
Not that I would buy one, but...
...a buddy of mine bought one about 2 years ago, and I was actually impressed. It seemed solid and well-built. |

Lets see:
Cruze: The Cruze is a giant POS compact car. The price for the diesel is $25K for said POS compact. or Mazda 6 Mid-sized chassis that consistantly wins awards. Much better quality interior. Somewhere around $26-27 for the diesel version IIRC. Should be available later this year. |
