Trying to get back into reloading its been an eternity since I bought components
Right now I'm seeing small pistol and rifle at about 32/box. Large primers at about 42. Match quality about 2-5 buck premium.
I just bought a case of 5k small pistol primers for 28/box. Reloading is very much about buying in bulk. |
You got fucked. I'll help you cut your losses and give you $20 for them.

Could have done better but having some is better than having none.

I haven't purchase primers in years so it might be the going price
If you can, purchase as a 5k container |
That's expensive, but if you didn't pay hazmat on top of that (bought local), meh. Not horrible. |
I pay $30/1000 CCI small rifle or pistol primers, but thats a super great price from a local FUDD shop who has not increased his prices for 2 years.
A normal local dealer sells them all day long for 40/1000 You did fine. |
I've been selling them for $35 a brick. If you buy a whole sleeve, even if you mix and match to get you to 5 bricks, I'll go $150, or $30 a brick.
This is for Winchesters, face to face in the St. Louis metro area. But not to turn this into an EE thread. |
Seen them from 30-45/K lately. You're in range, but not a great deal.
i wouldnt pay that much... but its less than you would have paid 5 months ago....
$32-$36 plus tax seems to be the rate locally at Scheels for what I've been buying.

Correct, $42 is $6. too much per K $6/k over the going rate for primers is no big deal when you are looking at 1k rounds of loaded ammo unless you are a manufacturer. |

Brand? that is about 6 bucks more than I can get Winchester or CCI down the street and 12 bucks more than wolf/tula a few more miles down the road. OK, but nothing to brag about.
I got 2 lbs of Varget at Walmart for $27.98/lb. Take what you find when you find it.
I can remember when primers were $8.95 for 1K.
And lead was FREE, if you had a friend who was a plumber or who worked in the newspaper press room. dp |
Fuck the primers...
How much did you pay for powder? (Recent purchase) |
39 to 45 bucks where I am now. About average I would say. Used to buy them for 29 a thousand.
My local guy, sells me 8 lbs of AA2230 for $130
Bullseye is 21 a pound. I think his price is too cheap, but its his shop to run as he pleases. |
I paid $39/k for small rifle winchesters today. I needed them, and there's only 1 place in town that sells them.
Still too high. They are 34 at Cabelas. Its really hit or miss. I have seen them as high as $55 as well. Powder has been priced pretty crazy as well.
In the grand scheme of things, you have them. You could have run all over town shopping and maybe saved $6. Not freaking worth it. Spend $10 in gas to save $5. You could have said "$40? Too much" and gone home empty handed. $10 in gas to neither save not spend. Kick yourself if you spend $100 too much on something. A small ticket item isn't worth fretting, unless you're buying a lot of them.

high. Wal-mart here has them @ $38, and Cabelas 3hrs away is @ $34. If i was out and needed them though, I'd buy.
Just bought 2k CCI 450's for $75.
So I'll be up to 5k of those primers, about 1k empty brass, 1k bullets, and no powder and almost no reloading equipment. WTF am I thinking? |

Build yourself a magazine! They're not difficult to build. Grandpa used to have one for black powder. He'd buy Goex a hundred pounds at a time for anvil shooting. |
