A Chicago alderwoman wants to charge a $25 licensing fee for bicycle owners and require them to take an hour-long safety class. Pat Dowell's proposal could generate up to $10 million a year if 400,000 cyclists buy the license. Dowell thinks the city should implement it instead of a heightened tax on cable television that's been proposed by the mayor. |

There is actually a bicycle registration fee here. I don't mind it really. Motorists can't (shouldn't) bitch about who owns the roads now.
|
|
There's not an aspect of your life that can't be taxed, apparently.
|
|
cyclist here, some idiots need this. But I don't want any more laws so fuck chitown

lol
The funniest thing is, LOTS of self-styled freedom-loving conservatives here on arfcom would be totally in favor of that. |
|
LOL
I do think we should have some kind of scooter/liquorcycle registration. Mainly because of the huge theft problem with them. |
|
Are they planning on taking cops off the gang watch details to check if bikes have licenses?

That applies to bicycles, tractors, and vehicles.

They should put a $50 tax on bikes AND tax cable TV.
I don't live there. |

Let this be a lesson to all the collectivist idiots who think their masters are going to leave them alone and only fuck with redneck racist gun owners

This is racist against all minority bike owners who may not be able to afford the fee. Get Al Sharpton on the phone.

I wonder how many FSAers in Chicago are riding around on stolen bikes right now...
I can tell you from multiple personal experiences in PG county, almost all the Amish that are riding bikes are on a stolen one, and the police don't give a fuuuuuuuuuck about your stolen property. |

The city I reside actually had a law on the books from the 70's up until recently that all bicycles must be registered. Absolutely nobody followed it so they decided to make it optional.

Well, given this is the same sort of libtard bullshit that put 16 hours of training req'd in the IL CCW bill, I'm not too surprised.

I propose a non use of public transit tax for anyone who walks city streets more than three blocks in a day.

I love how the government encourages people to drive hybrids, ride bikes to save gas and then start taxing hybrids and bicycles.
