Do you have such a deep attachment to every rock in its natural position? Does a camper who makes a fire ring by moving rocks from the places they are found do the equivalent of destroying a war memorial or knocking over a headstone, or is it just big rocks that get you worked up?

I wouldn't do it, I try to LNT as much as I possibly can, but it didn't look like a rock formation. It looked like a boulder up on a mound of dirt. Probably left over from a recent flood, not some ancient geological formation.

Nothing was destroyed in my examples. The things we are talking about are just dirt piled into shapes by some people.

"destroying them" is really a misnomer, its just returning them to a more natural state.

If they were so concerned about the rock possibly teetering over, they could have notified the rangers for that State Park and let them deal with it. Who are they to decide that this was the "best" way to handle it?
