I really think DU is funny as hell.
I mean, just LOOK at the difference between that site and this one for example.
Here, we can talk about just about anything, and anyone is free to register and post, even if it's an anti-gunner liberal with an anti-gun liberal agenda. We'll read their postings and will actually respond to it in what's usually a pretty civilized fashion. We don't discriminate and it's not a prerequisite for our members to be pro-gun or even Republicans. All are welcome to share their views, in appropriate forums.
Then look at Democratic Underground:
Site rules say that if you're not a liberal Democrat, you won't even be allowed to register! No conservatives allowed!
So, what they have is a mutual wankfest in a protected environment where they can be well shielded from other viewpoints and yes, even facts that they might not be aware of.
I know what sort of people engage in that sort of exclusionary behavior:
Young children who haven't yet learned social skills!
I've noticed that the anti-gun crowd in general operates on much the same principle. You can go to any of the pro-gun rights websites and interact with other people and email the staff, but look at the ANTI'S sites, and you can't even send an email to the staff! Go to the Brady Campaign's website and try to find a link to email any BC staff! You'll never find one!
If the Democrats and/or anti's won't even LISTEN to a contrasting viewpoint, then they will soon become completely irrelevant. Wars are fought with INFORMATION, and apparently they don't understand that.
Which is just fine with me, of course!
I am reminded of the facts regarding the demographics of the major parties:
As education level increases, people are more likely to be registered as Republicans.
As income increases, people are more likely to be registered as Republicans.
The Democrats should stop and think about that for a while. They should ask themselves WHY smart, successful people are likely to be Republicans. Maybe they'll figure something out .
