A: SWFA SS 10x42

B: Leupold VX-II 3-9x50

Would top a Remington 700 SPS 7mm mag

I can get either for same price.  Mainly for hunting and some target shooting.  Which would you choose?

B. The Leupold

Would normally say SWFA as I love them.

But the variable will most likely suite your needs better on a hunting rifle.

My vote would be for the Leupold.  I have had a few for years and they have always performed flawlessly.  That being said I do not have first hand experience w/ the SWFA so my opinion is lopsided.

Get the Leupie.

The SWFA is a good scope, but it's too damn heavy and limited in utility for a hunting rig.

Planning on whacking critters at long range is one thing, but finding yourself confronted with the trophy of a lifetime 40yds away...and all you can see in the narrow field of view is hair, is the reality of it.

Oops.. I shouldn't have quoted your question about mounts. I honestly don't have experience with either of those.

But for 400 yards, and closer, the Leupold.
