while i'm not one of the guys on this forum who is in touch with his feminine side when it comes to snakes
might want to have a talk with your kid about picking up strange snakes unless he is extremely knowledgable on species. i'd hate for it to actually be a "CopperMoutfRattleMoc" one of these days... |

I want to say a really big Garter or Ribbon snake but I haven't seen either one in years.....I am leaning towards Garter. Their color patterns can varry wildly but those long black bands are almost always there.

Nice python, cute kid, he doesn't look worried. Dad made sure we could distinguish shakes also, I remember doing the routine at 8 years old. He killed copperheads and rattlesnakes at work and brought the home to teach us.

Looks like a garter snake, likely harmless. However please teach your son not to pick up snakes of unknown kind. Could be a life threatening mistake.

Yellow Rat. We usually get them lighter and more yellow with darker stripes as they get older but some have the faint squares when young that are common on other rat snakes.

Doesn't look like most of the KNOWN poisonous varieties from what I can see.. a pic of the head would help.. would let it go away from the house |

I did a Google search for "snakes of Georgia" found The Eastern Garter snake. If you do an image search there are a lot of pattern variations.
This one looks kind of close.
