How is is health? Lots of talk about sick responders lately. Bless the man for his work, and not just on that day.

Bless your dad and thank him for ALL of his service, not just 9/11.

How soon did out-of-state FD's arrive in NYC?  Always wondered.

They were there by the night of the 11th and had a police escort from Indianapolis all the way to ground zero.

Damn. I wonder how long it took to drive what would normally take 11 hours, never mind how long it took to get everyone together and the get on the road(I imagine they were already in pretty good shape, but my understanding is that a lot of stuff changed post-9/11 on how they(meaning federal or interagency reponse) do things). I always figured USAR guys were a little crazy, I could never do that job. Glad they are around though.

Rare form of bladder cancer. Jaci was good people. Everyone suspects it is 9-11 related. I miss her. She was a shoulder to cry on the night that hole we were working blew up and burned a guy all to hell and we thought we lost two others.

The whole thing was fucked up.

Glad I was there with your dad. I worked nights and he worked days, but we sat across from each other there and back.  Talk about stepping into the unknown and then feeling like u did absolutely nothing because everyone was fucking dead.

Fucking camel fucking fucks.

It was a great gig and at one time, pre 9-11an extremely elite group of some of the hardest working sons of bitches I ever worked with. The .gov stuck their noses way too far into it after 9-11 and especially katrina and screwed it all up when they mandated we be stacked 3-5 deep in each spot. Next thing u know, u have delbert dumbfuck from tater buck flats vol fire dept working next to u. (Not a knock on vols). They just work different.

Thanks for sharing these, OP.

In addition to the horror and rage of the day itself, I think what I'll always remember is the way the site smoldered and smoked for more than a month. Somehow, that always got to me watching it on the news.

Tac221 and my dad deserve the real thanks. I was just a 19 year old with all the answers to life when this happened. My career didnt start for another 3 years.

Per my dad, he wants everyone to know that he was just doing his job and that the guys who never made it home on that day deserve the recognition.
