I know GD is normally filled with a variety of subjects some which spark intense and heated arguments. I know normally a lot of doom and gloom is also posted as well.
I have a request. For one day. Just one day. Tomorrow on 9/11 can we set aside the bickering, gloom/scaremongering, negativity against each other and reflect on what not only happened but those who lost their lives in not only the towers and the pentagon but the resulting wars? A mass tribute of love and patriotism for our country and those who signed up after the event or because of it who went into the unknown to fight a faceless and cowardly enemy. For those who bid their sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers goodbye to never see them again. I know this will probably be ignored and maybe even laughed at for being suggested but if it actually happened it would be a deeply humbling experience. - Your dearly hated Evil |

In the spirit of the OP's thread, no warning issued for that. BTW, if you were just joking, we have emoticons to indicate that. Hint hint |

If others choose not to honor this it is their choice. I for one will.
Never forget. |

That's really going to mess up my annual plans... I watch nothing but apache clips laying the fuck upon the mother fuckers who supported 9/11. Really helps curve my anger
|
|
That would be great, does that mean everyone will agree with everything I say?

If we don't bicker and bitch about beans in chili we let the terrorists win.

Yeah, that's it. |

Maybe to help get things rolling for tomorrow we could set up a moment of silence for here on Arfcom. Ask a staff member to post up a sticky that has a time set for all of us to be silent for a set amount of time.

I seriously doubt they'll get 2M. If they do, they'd shut the city down. I really hope it happens, but I doubt it. |

Nothing good came of what happened on 9-11 , save for the short time we all seemed to stand as one , which soon after seemed to divide us even further .
I can appreciate the symbolism and hopefull messages it might send , but the reality of it , is that we played right into both our government's , as well as our enemies hands . |

not to belittle or to forget, but to perhaps put things in perspective, after all we went to war in two countries, spent billions of dollars and have up-armored the local police, not to mention the fucking TSA and the loss of privacy rights and the huge NSA and surveillance budget which was all precipitated by some 20+ muslim men who could have been stopped if anyone was paying attention.
While we should remember, and not forget, i'd like some of my freedom and privacy back and how about spending some of those security dollars on keeping illegals from coming across the border. Here is the number of homicides in CHICAGO, obama's home town for each year, up through 2012 starting in 2001 for a little perspective... total is 6096 2001: 667 2002: 656 2003: 601 2004: 453 2005: 451 2006: 471 2007: 448 2008: 513 2009: 459 2010: 436 2011: 435 2012: 506 |

After what you said about civilians in the last of your many thinned skinned pit threads .
If you were laying on the ground having a heart attack,I'd step over you to get out of the door. |
|
The day when our government exploited a horrific, but entirely preventable attack to trample our liberties like never before and dupe us into two meaningless wars(one of which is still going today)? The terrorists who did the attacks may be dead, but in the end they won in a big way. They caused our country to do more damage to itself and our way of life than they could've ever done.

Celebrating free speech and the exchange of ideas is a more fitting tribute IMHO.
