I would love to be able to like posts on here. Maybe it is just a Facebook habit but I keep reading posts and wanting to hit the like button.

I agree. I often see a funny post, then go for the like button, then it hits me, you're drunk Jeffrey.

There would be a revolt, if this ever happens.
Arfcommers are proud of their hate for Facebook, even though they use this site...like Facebook.

Likes, rep systems, and upvotes are messageboard cancer that only promotes cliques, stifle discussion, and promote adoration of a venerated few.
Posts should stand on their own merits. That's why the technical boards of sites like 4chan are so often entertaining and informative and shitty posts drift to the bottom quickly. A more extreme example, of course, as even usernames aren't present there. |

But if we did that, how are we supposed to boost our post count by typing "+1, stimmt or amen"?
|
|
No, we really don't need one. Paying members can subscribe to threads that interest them.

Another forum I frequent about old tractors and such has a "thanks" button. Similar to a like button, if you post helpful info, someone can "thank" you for it. It actually keeps a running tally of how many times you've been thanked in however many posts.

This is a forum where posting videos of 40 goats getting run over by a semi truck is acceptable, but a pic of a girl in bikini gets threads locked.
Do you really think we'd get a like button? |

How would you feel about "countenance battery"? it has a decidedly more guns & ammo appeal. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Yeah, it would suck if people started posting the details of their daily lives, along with pictures of their food. Ugh, and just imagine if people started arguing with each other, and some drama broke out.

Before I discovered the EE, that's what I thought a user's Feedback was. Never could figure out how it worked, though.

You could go with "Let him live" and "throw him to the lions"
If you get twice the amount of "thrown him to the lions" than "let him live" you get a 3 day timeout and the counter resets. Would filter out a ton of bullshit. |

If we end up getting online co-op games native to this site along with endless requests to tumble brass for Subnet's ammo fort, etc., that's when I'll leave. |

A quasi oligarchy exists here already in which a few members can easily dominate a thread and not for the value of their post content. |

Honestly, I'd like an easy way to keep notes on any given poster. I can't count how many times someone said something and I thought "wow, this guy actually knows what he's talking about" or "forget this douchebag" but then forgot who it was. A couple notes I could keep to myself would help keep people straight for those of us who don't have photographic memories.
If we went to any kind of "like" or rep system, I think each user should be limited to a certain number of likes per day so it doesn't just turn into a gay popularity contest.
