Saw a Van Gogh exhibit back in the late 60's. His paintings are almost unbelievable. They are so alive.

Neat! the van gogh museum's pretty good too. kind of bare bones, but there's minimal security around the paintings, so you can get up close and really appreciate them. Hell you could touch them before getting kicked out if you're a dick.

I chiefed a 20 man crew loading in the scenic for the gala opening of the traveling Van Gogh "Masterpiece" exhibit at the National Gallery in D.C. They ran us through the wringer over ID and security so one morning when I went in at 0500 and I found the door unlocked I went for it. I knew that the lines were going to be around the block for the show so I figured I'd stroll down to the gallery and take a peek at the paintings. Unguarded, no cams, no alarms, no nothing. Just me and twenty priceless Van Goghs in a room all alone. As we have learned post 9/11, "security" for the most part, is an illusion. |

Am I in before someone called van Gogh an overplayed cliche?
Impressionist art is my favorite era. Seeing them in person, they produce a positive visceral reaction in me that I don't experience with any other art but a WELL written book. I'm no art expert. But I know what I like. ETA: Awesome news, OP! Hadn't seen this story. |
