I'm kind of torn. I like the KISS look, but I hate the stock that came with it, and the basic handguard could stand to be upgraded.
Then I start wondering about the trigger, the grip, and it spirals downward into changing out almost everything.

But no really $500 for a optic, $100 for a good sling and mounts and $150 for a light and mount. |

I'd spend whatever it cost to chop 1 1/2" off the end of the barrel and perm install the flash hider. Or just buy a rifle with the correct gas system.

New stock that will stay in position, not expensive. New grip, not expensive. I love my Ergo SureGrip, was like $23. Geissele SSA, $180 - $210 depending on where you find one. BEST thing you can do for ANY AR! Aimpoint PRO, $370 - $408ish, again find the good deals.

Small changes. Just replace the upper and lower with billet, the barrel with a mid length, the handguards with a free float modular, the trigger with a geiselle, and the stock/buffer with an a5 kit.
Actually, enjoyed the 6920s I had. Would suggest buying/building another rifle to mess around with if you are bored. |

My "main" 6920, the only thing 6920 about it now is the upper and stripped lower. Every other part has been replaced and/or upgraded.

I prefer the more triangular MOE handguards or the round regular handguards to the oval version that the newer Colt's come with.
I also prefer the Sopmod style stocks although the Rogers stock is fine when you lock it down. Nothing wrong with spending $$ upgrading your 6920...Though if you are spending $$$$ Id say you should think about just getting a different rifle.
I put a Geissele trigger in mine and B5 sopmod stock on it and am happy with it... |

You could save a bit of coin if you bought used rails, grips, etc. Personally, I think you should modify it to your heart's content. But if you do, and you end up selling it, just don't expect to recoup everything you put into it (like anything else). Good luck!

I don't really see that anything else is necessary. Trigger? On an AR-15? How far away do you think you're going to be shooting people from? |

If your Rogers stock doesn't lock, it sounds like it's broken. It's under warranty, send it back and get it fixed.
I'd buy it from you, as I like the stock, but not if it's broken. Seriously, why would you settle for a brand new, broken gun? |

I would just build another gun from scratch the way you want it and keep the Colt for a plinker and as a proven and reliable SHTF gun. Building from new would be easier and less messier than trying to dissasemble the Colt and modifying it with substandard parts. And you'll end up with a second gun for couple to a few hundred dollars more than you would have spent just modifying the Colt and making it less reliable.

Mine is outfitted with a 14.5" barrel, fixed flash hider, Knight's handguards, and the old style CAR stock. Looks very basic. Just threw an Eotech on it. |

Before they became common I added a Magpul stock, trigger guard, grip, and fore rail. Basically kept it simple.It now sports a Aimpoint Comp M4 with Larue mount. Will add a trigger job later, probably Timney.

I had mine juiced out with magpul stuff Acog etc. Then I bought a 14.5 P&W BCM upper and swapped everything back over to the 6920. I like the classic look of this rifle without all the mods on it.

Colt M4A1 SOCOM- $1417 out the door with mil discount.
RAS II (second from KAC- $150) Geissele trigger (spelled it wrong I know ($180, standard SSA) TA01NSN (used LNIB for $650 with case, papers etc) Hogue Grip ($18) KAC 600m micro sight ($85 NIW) and some other stuff I am forgetting. Needless to say, it was a fairly cheap upgrade set, it works and works well Got everything I wanted for a total of right at $2500. damn good shooting rifle too! |
