Anything can happen, and I don't want to get too optimistic yet, but right now it looks like Repbulican Mitt Romney is beating Democrat (and Hillary hugger) Shannon O'Brien,  53% to 40%.

Most important, in urban areas where O'Brien hoped to pickup alot of votes, the voting is about even between the two.

Though we had a Libertarian running, promising to repeal tough gun laws for us from '98, I would be inifinitely happier with a Republican than a Hillary hugger.

Keep your fingers crossed for us here, and keep in mind we can still have AK's and hi-caps here- we're not another Ca. yet!

Oh, suuuure... Mitt romney, the gun-owners' friend...riiight...he supports the AW ban and all the 1998 laws. What's the diff between him and Shannon O'Brien? Answer: about forty pounds- other than that, not much. Hack-O-Rama.

As for the GOP protecting our rights, hey- who gleefully signed the 1998 laws (Ch. 180) into law? That's right- Gov. Argeo Paul Cellucci- Republican, and big time gun grabber. (Now he's the ambassador to Canada. Poor Canada.)

All the dumbass hunters in MA voted for him- he said he wouldn't taking hunting guns away....[rolleyes]

"But guys- he's Republican- they're pro-gun!"[%|]

95thfoot,

He is the lesser of two evils, and the most we could realistically hope for in this state.

I hate to say it, but even though I voted for Romney, I don't believe it will make any difference.  This is a socialist Democrat state.  With Finneran in charge, you can bet that they will continue to stick it to gun owners.  The only rational choice is the one I have made,  MOVE AWAY!!

Big choice this year. (as allways) a mass republican is like a southern dem.

I am so sick of Mass politics.

The only reason I voted for Mitt was that he wasn't a Dem. Politically speaking, my views are way more in line with the Libertarians, but with the race this close, and as much as it pained me, I didn't vote for Carla Howell. I'll wager that the Green Party voters have a lot to do with the numbers you posted.
Adding to that, I actually voted for Jack E. Robinson (enough pain for one day).

I think the Libs fucked up big time. Howell had little chance at the Governors seat. The Libs also dropped the ball on not getting out the vote for Cloud who was up against Kerry (whom was unopposed by any GOP candidate).

Howell should have run for the Senate seat. When she ran against Kennedy, she didn't do too bad.
With no Republican to choose from I'm confident
that many Repub voters would have gone with Howell if only to vote against Kerry and lessen the chances of a Dem controlled Senate. Again, add in the Green Party vote and Kerry loses votes. maybe not a win for Howell, but could ahve been interesting.

What really burst my bubble was that AG Reilly (SP?) was unopposed... this is unacceptable! Get him out of office and replace him with a more sane, open minded AG and we'll be that much closer to unfettered gun ownership.

As far as gun ownership is concerned, there was very little difference between Romney and O'Brien.

A few months ago I sent Romney an email asking why he hadn't filled out the GOAL questionaire. I got a response a day ago from Healy. Did not address any of my questions!

She said she supports hunters/sportsmen. Absolutely nothing about possession for protection.

He also said:
".I will work with our next Governor, Mitt Romney, to find a compromise that would allow certain non-violent offenders who present no danger to the public to hunt and / or carry a firearm as a police officer"

I responded to her..why police officers only...what about 'ordinary citizens'? Why would she create an exemption specifically for police officers, shouldn't ordinary citizens be afforded the same consideration? No reply yet.

I ended up voting Libertarian for Governor. Like I said, no difference between Romney and O'Brien.

Aces and Eights,

A Libertarian would be my dream for this state, but seeing Hillary here for O'Brien last week really sharpened my decision.

It's funny, was just over at democraticunderground.com reading all the whining, and in a Mass thread they are calling John Kerry a turncoat, and a democrat in name only- I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

Yeah, I read that stuff earlier today. Seems like a few of them were voting 'Green' to voice their opinion. I'm hardly what you'd call a conservative or liberal, but given the choices and what's at stake, I went with what I thought was my best chance. I wasn't about to pull a "Naderism" (or whatever it was that Klinton called it).

Edited to add....

Just turned on the TV in time to catch Shannon's concession speech. Oh, boo-hoo-hoo [:)]. Maybe Mitt's not the best choice for RKBA, but at least his winning has the DU'ers apoplectic.

I was in the same boat as you, especially  when I saw Ted Kennedy, Hillary and Bill come to town to campaign for her. Then hearing that Romney's support was dwindling, I had to weigh my hate for Kennedy/Clintons against my oath to only vote for those who are strongly pro-gun.

I guess I had the best of all worlds...I voted for a pro-gun candidate, knowing she didn't have a chance, and a Republican still won. Not ideal..but better than the alternative of a Democrat.
