Why didn't the Nazis have lookouts posted on the sub after they took the Ark from the merchant ship?

Best answer you'll get.

Better question: Where did Indie learn to swim faster than a submarine?

Yeah, how did Indy cling to the submarine for so long and not die.
I assumed they didn't have lookouts because it was day and they intended to submerge. So, Indy would have had to cling to the submerged sub as it moved toward it's secret island base.

And how did he and Marion get home? Call the Coast Guard?

Never explained in the movie, but in the comic he hung onto the periscope.

I know U-Boats mostly traveled on the surface, but, wow.

Anyway, still a fantastic movie.

In the movie, he was waiting on the sub when it docked. He couldn't do that hanging onto the periscope.

But, yeah, it's an awesome movie. You just have to disengage the analytical/critical part of your brain and enjoy the show.

Those U-Boats were diesel/electric. They ran on batteries when submerged, which was slow, so they tended to run on the surface using the diesel unless spotted by a plane.

Plus, it's a movie.

Quite possibly one of the greatest movies of all time in tone and appearance. Watched it again last night with my 5 year old.

A few questions.

How could the people responsible for this also have made Temple of Doom and Crystal Skull?

Why did he run from the boulder? If he had just stopped it would have went right by him.

Why was there a 2 seater plane waiting for him, but there were 4 people in his party originally?

Why does his student have "Love You" on her eyelids?

Why does a college classroom have a bell?

Was that a man or woman that Marion drank under the table?

Why would you start out with a custom 1917, a and a Browning HiPower, then regress back to a freakin' Webley?

What kind of airplane did they blow up, and where exactly were the Nazi's going to put the Ark in it?

He rode the Uboat all that way?

If he'd have let the boulder go by, he'd have been trapped in the cave.

Also, he had half a map and the guy who was gonna shoot him in the back had the other half.  He probably met them somewhere in the jungle right before the movie starts, but that doesn't explain why the plane was fairly close to the temple thing.

He was supposed to be sleeping with the Co-ed who had "Love You" written on her eyelids. She was to be in the scene later in the film when he was at his house and the museum guy came over. But they decided it was a bit to risque and left him home alone.

It was standard U-bootewaffe procedures to have lookouts whenever a sub was surfaced.

What got me was how did Indy get aboard the sub before it dived?

Well, yeah, but if they had posted lookouts Indy would have had to swim and the Nazis would have had to wait forever before they could get started. It was just quicker for them to let him hitch a ride.

after you hang onto the hot exhaust of a truck you can hang onto virtually anything. Plus they cut the scene where he shoved a bunch of straws into his pocket to make a breathing tube.

Watch - Dogs of War - same ship, same crew Bellock was in that as well. Smart producers shoot 2 movies at the same time.

and flew in Feb of 1945, never made production

IIRC, NONE of the guns featured in that movie could have been seen then. I doubt a submarine crew would have 98ks' within months of possible first production. Same with Indy's Hi Power, I doubt he got a first production run of it.

That is what I figured. Subs back then always traveled on the surface except when getting close to striking a target. I always figured that Indy rode on top of the sub while it was surfaced.

The nazis believed Indy was dead, as the merchant ship captain said. Foolishly, they believed him and didnt take precautions.
