Brady, Rogers, Brees, P-Manning

Tier 2: Ryan, Eli Manning, Flacco, Romo

(That's the top 25% of starters)

All others are on the outside looking in.

Luck, kapernick, RG3, maybe RWilson on the brink of being T2

Brady, Manning, Rodgers,  Brees, Ryan
Potential to become elite this year
Luck, Romo, little Manning.
Maybe the option QBs Wilson, RG 3, and Kap.  This year might be rough on the running QBs.

Brady, P. Manning, Brews, Rodgers.

I think Luck is going to have a monster year. Rothlisberger would be among them if he had someone to throw to and an O-line

It can change.  We know who was elite last year.  We know who should be that way this year.  Pretty soon they'll have to play games to prove it.

I think Brady is near the end of his run.  So is Manning.  That guy in Pittsburgh is on borrowed time.

Where's Romo in that poll? He's fifth in all time career passing and within 1.1 points of the other 4, except Aaron Rodgers. Rogers leads everyone by over 7 points.

Yup.

I believe Kaepernick will become one, the same way I knew Brady would be elite during the 2001 playoffs.

Kaepernick has the poise, the touch, the intelligence, the strong arm, and most of all, the ability to make plays with his legs.  He's the total package.

The only reason he's not is because he's a gunslinger who takes chances when the rest of his team doesn't perform. He's a tremendous talent with no line and the dumbest receivers in the business.  About 25 teams in the league would trade their starter for Romo in a heartbeat.

and it pains me to not be able to honestly put Matty Ryan in that group.

I am no Cowgirls fan.  But Romo has taken more than his fair share of blame for the problems in Dallas.  It stems back to the fumbled field goal snap in the playoffs.

So far there seems to be a pretty decent consensus on who is elite. Brady, Brees, P. Manning and Rodgers. But what makes them elite? The last three only have one Super Bowl ring each, the same as Joe Flaco and each one less than Eli and Big Ben. Besides rings and numbers there has to be some non tangible aspect that we use to define elite. Something that when we watch we know that a QB has it or doesn't.

Both Mannings, Eli because he's delivered twice in the Super Bowl

Brady....obvious

Brees....big stats AND Super Bowl

Rodgers....same

Roethlisberger SHOULD be considered elite too.  He's got some negatives around his name but pretty close to Manning in stats and SB wins etc.

Obviously these guys have already had LONG careers to justify them.    The rest lack that or a certain level of success.

Elite QB's don't fuck up in the playoffs.  They win Superbowls by beating the other team.

Romo has made his share of mistakes, and sometimes really bad ones, but he hasn't had much help. He's played behind one of the worst lines in the league and is usually running for his life. I'd like to see the top 3 do the shit he's done behind the line he's played behind.

Lot of people voting for has-beens.

Peyton, Brees, and Brady are done, fellas.  They'll be mediocre from here out.

Rogers, Eli, and Kaepernick are the best 3 QBs in the game right now.

Flacco has a shot at getting there if he can learn to read defense better, gets some more run support from the line, and in general beefs up his mental game.  But he's got a season or two before he gets there, if he continues at his current pace of improvement.  He's got the physical ability and natural talent to get there, but it remains to be seen if he will.  Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised tonight.

Vick is out.  Too injury prone.  But that's all Philly QBs because our offensive line is weak.  That's a franchise problem, but it's also his problem.  On the plus side, he's throwing to Jackson, and that guy is a fucking two-legged cheetah.  A lot of things will have to go right for him to be 'elite.'

Tony Choke-o is not in the top 50%, has never been, and never will be.  He inherited one of the best receiver and line packages in the league, and still got knocked out of the playoffs like a little bitch.  But that's fine, because the Cowboys and everyone who roots for them deserve nothing less than painful intestinal gas distention, followed by liquid magma habanero shits for a week.  I mean that.  If you root for the Cowboys, I honestly wish you the most painful week of shitting yourself anyone has ever known.  It's nothing personal, but you deserve it because the Cowboys are a bunch of grabastic degenerate trash.

Rodgers, Brady, Brees, Manning, and Manning.

Eli just because he is a monster in the post season. If he could keep the picks down he would be easily considered elite by all. Giants still won 9 games last year (and close in two or three others) when the defense was ranked 31st.

Wilson, Kaepernick, and the other new comers need to have a little more history behind them before they could be considered elite.

Flacco, Ryan, Romo etc haven't really shown they can do it when it counts. Flacco did look great last year, but he's been in the league for a long time and no one would have considered him great until he won a Superbowl.

Remember that Mark Sanchez lead the Jets to two AFC championship games. Yes with a strong defense and a good running game, but Flacco and Kaepernick had that to.

I don't think anybody is saying Romo is elite...not yet anyway. I'm a Cowboy fan and I don't think he's elite, but he's no slouch. There's only 4 QB's i'd take over him. Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, and Brady, and ONLY if they had a good Oline. All four of those fuckers would be dead behind the Cowboys Oline of the last 5 years.
