Hey Pangea, sounds remarkably like what I was shooting at too. I was about 20 yards to your left on sunday.
My normal fare is steelplate and propane tanks with API, bluetips, or spotter-tracers with the .50 or just paper with the little stuff. |

Since my son has finally decided that picking up the trash afterwards is not so bad, everything has become a potential target. His plastic soldiers are now one of his fsvorite targets. They fly well and , if you can find them, they are good for several hits.

old magnavox 27 inch color POS. except it didn't last very long. shoulda stood further away...
other appliances i'd LIKE to shoot but CAN'T: this PC (whenever it crashes during CS) refrigerator (whenever it wakes us up at night) neighbor's air conditioner (sounds like a chainsaw) our current big screen TV, just so i can buy A NEW ONE!!! |

I once went so far as taping 10 bottles, or five pounds, together. The blast left a nice crater and left what grass was left flat. Last time I had that much fun was when I was firing the MK19... well, almost. No coyote hopping out on the range this time. [:D] |

I usually shoot at standard V-Bull targets for everyday practice.When I'm getting ready for our sniper matches, I will shoot our military silhouette,head, and hostage targets.When I'm feeling good and in match form,and want to challenge myself, I will shoot .38 Special cases at 100 and 200 yards.

Usually shoot at paper. Occasionally I'll blast some clay pigeons, milk jugs, plastic bottles, steel spinners (handguns), etc...
I just replaced the front brake rotors on one of our cars. I plan to make targets out of the old ones (long range targets). Anybody else try this? |

Soda cans filled with frozen water.
Night before the range trip, raid the recycle bin, fill two-thirds with water, place in freezer. In the morning you load them in the cooler. It keeps your lunch cool and provide excellent "reactive" targets. |

Recipe for fun.....Take 1 full soda can, shake well, run twine through tab, hang it up, shoot, EXPLODE!!!
If you think you are a really good shot, try to hit an apsrin at 100yards. Not as easy as it sounds. |

If you are stuck going to a range that only allows paper, try taping or glueing animal crackers to a paper target. Sounds ghey, but at 50 yards with scoped 10/22s my son and I had a great time "on safari" one afternoon at a range near our house.

Very few targets are as much fun as ping pong balls filled with Pyrodex, and assassinated at a safe distance. (like at least 50 yards!)
Excess fruits and vegetables can be a hoot, particularly if they're nailed with something BIG and FAST. Subsonic ammo isn't much fun on a watermelon, but a .308 hollowpoint sure is! Bottles filled with water are a classic. It helps to fill them COMPLETELY with water and cap them off with NO air in them at all. If they're completely full of water and sealed, then the hydrostatic shock effects are maximized, making for a more dramatic result. If I had a concrete pillbox to shoot from, I'd shoot propane tanks that were ALMOST empty, with just a squirt of gas left in them. With tracers, of course! If you can deal with the mess, shooting glass bottles is always a lot of fun, too. CJ |

These exploding pingpong balls become still MORE fun if they're hanging. This is accomplished by getting some small screw eyelets and screwing them into the balls and hanging them from a tree with a length of thread. (Sounds painful, doesn't it? [:D]) CJ |

I was impressed I could hit 4 of 5 spent shotgun casings with my PSS this weekend (had to hold off right a little after the first one). But .38 brass? That's impressive. I'm mostly shooting paper right now because... I'm new to the precision shooting realm but shooting and testing quite a bit. I put another 100 rounds through the PSS this weekend. FINALLY got a reliable zero and figured bullet drop at 200 and 300 yards with what is becoming my pet load--Neck sized Win brass, 44 grs. of Varget, Federal 210M primer, Hornady or Sierra (they perform the same for me but Hornady is $3.00 cheaper) 168 HPBT Match bul, and seated to 2.815 AOL. Got 3.5" of drop at 200 with a 100' zero (a little less than most of the charts call for but I don't have a chronograph to check velocity so I just test). Also, 5 shot groups are averaging .7" at 100'--4 shot groups average an impressive .4"@100"--I'm convinced I have a mental block in that always call one flyer in the group but I feel that the gun will do consistent .5" groups with the right shooter. I've been getting .75 MOA groups at 200, 300, and 375 yards (the limit at my range) so I know the gun will do it--but can I? Anyway, happy shooting. |

2 liter soda bottles filled with ice. They are reactive, can take multiple hits and have a nice shrapnel effect. Plus, you always have ice for your cooler.
Cinder blocks are fun with a .22 pistol...anything bigger kills them too quickly. |

I don't shoot anything that can't be cleaned up easily. I honestly can't blame property owners up in the mountains around here for putting up gates. The mess some people leave is unreal. I will confess the only thing I do shoot that I don't get picked up is clay pigeons.

Anything small enough to be covered by the crosshairs. I.E. Shoot-n-see dots at 100 yds.
When I was a kid, we used to shoot grapes at 50 ft. with a scoped .22. That was a challenge! -White Horse |

Off the back porch at the farm there's paper targets at 100 for checkin zero and at 200, 300, 400, 550, 625, 700 & 800 yards it's steel.
That way a spray can of white w/ yellow for the bulls-eyes (which are normally the diameter of the spray-can top) gets ya clean targets. Plus it's nice to hear that distant Whang! as confirmation that ya hit the target. [:)] Mike |

I'm lucky enough to own land, so I can shoot alot of different things. Favorites are appliances such as washers, dryers, etc. I have a dead refrigerator which will see some action soon. Halloween leftover pumpkins are fun. Havn't tried the semi-filled propane bottles yet....need to give that a try. The ground is plenty wet here now, so no chance of fire.
