If you had a choice:

You have a 3 hour drive to the airport.  You are going on a 2 week vacation. You CANNOT take your pistol on vacation.

#1. Take your pistol and leave it locked up in the car that is staying in airport long term parking...and take a chance hoping nobody will steal your car or pistol.

#2. Leave it at home and take a chance that a situation will not occur enroute to the airport or enroute home after vacation.

Which is it?

What about using one of the storage lockers they have at the airports? They are outside the secure areas so you could carry the pistol in to that point and lock it away. That would be alot more secure than leaving it in the car.

Yes, Paul, but it's not just the odds, it's the stakes.  A stolen gun ($500) on top of a stolen car ($10000) is a pretty negligible loss.  You and your family dying because you weren't armed, however, is as bad as it gets.  That's why it's a subjective choice.

People play the super lotto for the same reason.  The odds of winning are essentially zero, but the stakes are high.

How many cars get ripped off or broken into parked at the airport?

How many times does an event occur while driving down the highway on the way to a vacation?

About a 10,000 to one ratio, I'll play those odds.

Bring your least expensive, easiest to replace gun and lock it in your car at the airport.  That way you still have the means to protect yourself during the drive, but minimize your losses if it gets stolen.
