Over the weekend, we came four votes away from the US Senate giving our Constitutional rights over to the United Nations. In a 53-46 vote, the senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The Statement of Purpose from the Bill reads:
"To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty."
The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S., and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry on all private guns and ammo.
Astonishingly, 46 out of our 100 United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional rights to a foreign power.

Senate treaty ratification requires 2/3 not a simple majority.

At least we can more easily resist a foreign entity.  Once the Feds take our rights, they are gone for good.

I'm not sure they understand how treaties work.  I doubt most of the outraged people even know that the country which signs has to pass national legislation to give the treaty any teeth.

Congratulations, you're slightly less statist than the full blown socialists in the Democrat party on some issues. Now we'll just ignore the fact the Reps created the Patriot Act, DHS, and TSA.

I don't think any libertarians actually believe that the Reps are the Same as the Dems. Libertarians tend to vote Republican almost elusively except in the rare circumstance that a libertarians is actually on a ballot. But I do believe they are not nearly different enough.

There does seem to be a number of dim Republicans who can't distinguish between a Libertarian and a Liberal despite the fact that Liberals always advocate state solutions to all of societys ills while Libertarians see the state as the last worst solution in almost every instance.

The biggest difference between the Dems and Reps, is that Republicans tend to be highly nationalist while still being all too statist, while Dems tend to be internationalist, apparently possessing too much statism for just one state!

So yes, I prefer nationalist statism over internationalism. But I'd rather no statism at all.

Now, if there is some prize for excessive usage of he word "state" you can PM me for my address.

Sanders is only an "Independent" because "Socialist" isn't an option. In local elections in Burlington, he ran and won openly as a Socialist IIRC. As a Socialist, it makes sense that he would caucus with the Democrat Party.
