You still have unlimited opportunity in the US. If you work hard and have the drive to do so, you can become a multi-millionaire (or better).

According to a dead French Catholic by the name of Alexis de Tocqueville who wrote "Democracy in America" in 1835, America is great because Americans are basically good people. And will cease being great when the average American ceases to be basically a good person.

We have a mighty military because a) we had a mighty economy (rule of law, respect for private property) and b) our military understood itself as a servant not ruler... a servant of the rule of law not men, for the sake of liberty not power. To the degree flag officers and everyone underneath becomes greedy and filled with lusts for power, pleasure, etc. the mighty military will begin to ring hollow and more and more resources will be devoted to basically bribing or threatening people to obey their oaths and do their jobs. And all the police state panopticon will paradoxically result in a less secure America.

America used to be invulnerable not because of the NSA but because it was full of Americans.

America is great because we chose to be and our government was kept in check because it was ran (for the most part) by honest hard working people.

ETA: I am of the opinion that we are in the middle of the decline where the average person chooses not to be great, and our government is being run by crooked men and women.

Because we are a Republic founded on the principles of democracy and liberty. We are not simply a tribe or empire, but a nation founded on a specific set of ideals. We may sometimes fall below those ideals, but as long as we acknowledge those ideals we will have a purpose that other states lack.

No. It's horseshit. We have two huge boat anchors when being compared to other modern states: (1) we give everyone a chance at college. A lot of those high-scoring states only have their best and brightest take those tests, the rest are shuffled off to trade schools; and (2) we have a large immigrant population, which until it assimilates will bring down all kinds of social indicators such as mortality rates, teenage pregnancy rates, test scores, etc. We invented the fracking internet. We produced Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. I'm not saying we're necessarily better than everyone, but our economy and society is as dynamic as it gets. You can succeed in this country at least as well as any other modern western state.
