This new interface is awful. Unable to change route options like tools during navigation. Have to stop the route and recreate it entirely.
No more phone menu button, use this tab that looks like a screen glitch partially and accidentally copied off. Entering and address I'd confusing, it's life they want to throw in the towel to Apple.

Any chance it looks like it might be related to them wanting to drop Android in favor of a ChromeOS type interface?

Navigation has completely gone from my S3. I've had to uninstall the updates to get it back

You can uninstall the "Maps" update from the Play store to get the old nav app back. Just know that if you have auto updating enabled, it will update back at the earliest point.
The new app is really, really bad IMO. |

Just go to apps in your settings, and uninstall updates for the google maps. The regular navigation will come back.
I had the same issue. |

I quit using goog last year when I discovered I not spec a hybrid surface-interstate route, nor override construction zone bypasses.
No biggie, I never go anyplace other than work, shopping or the GF's. I did want to dox some bike rides, but the gps tracks i generated did not seem very portable to other platforms or apps. I think a lot of these capabilities are still more toy-like than tool like. [ I ] Don't use the steal my shit apps. Galaxy S 3. |

I prefer the previous interface as it was quicker to use IMHO. Which version of Android is running on your S3? I'm running 4.1.2 with Kernal 3.0.31-1152558 |

Three or four months ago Google Earth went buggy on my Win7 machine. The street view went T/U.
I uninstalled it but there was still a folder left so I drug it to the trash. There were 3,000,000 + files in the thing. Took a couple of hours to delete them all. IIRC they were the graphic files of the places I'd been. Google is de debil. |

Get the Move! Bike Computer app. It makes great tracks, and they are exportable in a few common formats. |
