I was looking for a new car. I read the advice here on GD and bought a Subaru Forester. Traded in the 03 Ranger Edge. I have been driving Fords since 1975 so far so good.

Welcome to the club and prepare for the GD assraping. Now check out subaruforester.org, the ARF of the Subaru world, and learn about modding your new vehicle.

I have a Hoppes air freshener hanging from my Subaru's rear view mirror. But I douse it with patchouli oil every now and then just to keep it real.

I took this picture myself down in P-Town. I thought it was fucking hilarious. I took it years ago, that's why it looks like it was taken via potato cam.

LOL okay, let me rephrase.  My mom has a Subaru Outback she got about 10 years ago.  It has always been extremely reliable and smooth riding in the time that I got to drive it, and of course as well all know, all Subarus are AWD.  So that is what made me decide on a Legacy when I was in the market for a midsize sedan a few years ago.  Say what you want, but they are very nice cars, and I think every bit as good as an altima or camry.  Plus it handles in snow very well, which is great here in OH.

ETA: it just sucks because it normaly only reads about 20-21 mpg.  I forget what it said on the sticker, but thats what I get.  Not terrible I guess, but not great.

My aunt bought a brand new Forester in 2011, and I've probably got a solid 10-12k miles behind the wheel of it. There's nothing exciting about it, but it's a damn good vehicle. It's reliable, it's efficient, it handles well, it's comfortable, and the little 4 banger and auto trans are perfectly matched to allow acceleration without a bunch of fuss. The only thing I think I would have added is a 5th gear for high speed highway cruising.

Hopefully, the CVT on the new one doesn't suck. If it's decent, the Forester is probably in the top 3 in the running for my next DD which I'd like to buy next year.

I put over 100k on my '85 wagon, then my stepdaughter put on another 75k. Very comfortable, economical, never caused any serious trouble, and great in the snow as long as it didn't get too deep. The Forester and Outback solved the ground clearance problem.

I had a 2005 Forester XT 5spd until I traded it in a couple months ago.

Loved it.

Too bad the new turbo models don't have the option of a proper manual gearbox.

Lineartronic CVT?

Great cars, even with the peter puffer stigma. American, non-union made, reliable and most get great gas mileage. Wife has a '12 Outback and it's been an excellent vehicle.

Awesome i certainly hope that you enjoy it. I have really enjoyed my 2013 WRX, as has my wife with her BRZ.

Time for some Perrin mods. :) Check our Perrin Performance. I used a shit ton of stuff from their company and it was worth it.

Subarus are great. With proper tires you can get almost anywhere, and they're comfortable for piling gear into and hitting the road for shooting events.

I'm fairly sure his Forester was made in Japan.
