I want to get a pair of decent cowboy boots.  I have worn a pair before from a friend and enjoyed them but don't remember what brand or style they were.  I'm looking for a decent pair under $200 that will be durable and comfortable, they will be mostly worn casually around town, work, and outdoors.  I know the budget isn't really in the range on "nice" cowboy boots but can't justify spending over $200 for my first pair.  So far from what I can tell Laredo and Ariat are in that range and have good reviews.  Anyone have any recommendations on a good brand or model?

Also this. I either buy Tony Lamas or Ariats, depending what's in stock or on sale.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

If you have a large boot store in your area go there and see what they have. A lot of times they have dozens of boots on sale. I have a pair of bullhide Tony Llamas that I've worn for 5 years and been resoled twice.

Good boots for the money generally include Tony Llamas, Ariats (I'm not a huge fan), Justin's, and a few others.

Twisted X model MWT0004. I own Lucchess"s that cost 3+ times as much and aren't half as comfortable.

Thanks for the replies I'm leaning towards the Ariats.  Is the sizing pretty similar to a regular work boot?

There's a difference in work boots, dress boots, and just everyday cowboy boots.

Had Justins. Biggest pieces of shit I ever owned.

Don't know about my current ones. Just some no name boots that were around $150. I've gone through two sets of soles and heels on them and have probably owned them for about ten years.

You don't need to go expensive to go good.

I haven't owned any of their Western boots, but I've worn out three pairs of Ariat paddock boots in the past 20 years, and they weren't pampered. They were worn around horses, riding, grooming, and mucking out stalls. They've been stepped on a few times, too, several by draft horses.

Hose them off after each use, touch up the shine with a good polish occasionally, and you can wear them to church.

They are very comfortable both in the saddle and on the ground.

Double HH also.  Leather soles don't work well if it snows.  Dropped my motorcycle at a red light when the leather sole hit an oil patch.  Unless it's for dancing no leather soles.

yep.
When I got married I got everything resoled with rubber soles.
Leather is for sanded dance floors.

Just bought a pair of Double H square toe, steel toe work boots. Took a few days to break them in and I love them. Mainly because the square toe doesn't eat socks and has a bit more room.    However IMHO square toe boots look like ass!

I would love to have another pair of factory custom Nocona boots. I can't seem to find a dealer who either knows how to order then or will. The last pair I bought were something like $150 or so over the cost of the boot.  I want a pair of plain black leather round toe boots (not a roper) with no stitching, a walking heel and 14 inch tops. No one makes a boot without stitching on the toes that I can find. (afford)

This. If your using them for something other than working with horses and cattle, they are just work boots. The leather sole is so the boots don't hang up in the stirrups. I've got a set of hand made Tony Lamas from when you could send them a drawing of your feet and they would make you a custom set. Very comfy.

Same here. It took a little massaging (pounding) to get the heel where it wouldn't blister me. After that, Damn comfy. I got Ropers, FWIW.
