I like the original, black, .357 Mag version.

All the blinged out stuff doesn't appeal to me.....and .50 just doesn't fill a need for me.

Cool safe queen, but as you suggested, it's a conversation piece.....not a practical personal defense weapon.

i've only shot a 50AE long ago and I remember I couldn't aim for shit - the kick as bad.

I wonder how it compared to a .44 mag?

Yes, the .44 is a pleasure shoot compared to the .50AE, that is a beast.

I enjoy shooting the .44.

The .50 on the other hand, not soo much.

My brother bought a black .50 from a show and he bought a box of 20 rounds.

This was back in 2004 maybe.

There are still 10 in that box.

I have only shot it in .50. I didn't think it was too bad. But the only other pistol cartridge i have ever shot was .40 S&W, so i cant really compare it to other cartridges of its size

I can't get behind buying guns that you won't shoot. I can't ever see myself buying those shiny pieces you see in the NRA rag to stash in a safe somewhere.

Yea, me neither.

But, it was an impulse buy.

He already owned a .44 in a brushed nickel finish, really nice looking gun and it is fun to shoot.

I talked him into that one because I said "Everybody needs at least one shiny gun".

Few years later he saw that .50 at a gun show and said he had to have it.

I'm not a big fan of those super-duper collector pieces either.

I carry mine in an ankle holster.

I have the plain black with no beamz.Just had it out last weeked-they are not bad to shoot at all.

Anyone have experience with them enough to know if that's newbies limp wristing or a flaw in the design (or, maybe wear and tear on a range gun)?

Mine prefers hot loads, I've had problems with some of the reloads gun ranges tend to sell.

Played with one at work one time.

Guy brings it in, complete with white gloves for us mere humans to handle it with (which in retrospect was probably a good idea, I have real acidic body pH

).

Wanted something between $3600~$3800 for it.

We passed on his generous offer, but I got to get all the giggle factor of a gold plated Deagle (yo!), for thousands of dollars less than the street price

.

That was my experience with them, out of my system now.

My .50 has never had any issues-even letting women shoot it that aren't into shooting (I only put one round in so they can try it).

Like it or hate it, the Desert Eagle finishes are some of the most technically impressive metal finishes available on a handgun.

That's not actually gold. It's a titanium oxide PVD finish. It's actually quite hard and durable.

They also do a really nice chrome and black chrome, and a few other very expensive finishes.

The finish alone can be an $800-1000 option.

I'd love to have one just for the artistry involved in making them. Of course it's impractical as a weapon; that's not the point.

They're reliable IF you use ammo on the hotter side.

I've "fixed" a couple unreliable Desert Eagles (a .357 and a .44) just with a simple ammo change.

Oh, and never EVER use cast bullets. Jacketed only.
