This is you and your wallet, after you buy one.

The Challenger is a great American Muscle car.  It can't turn, its big as fuck, but its sexy as hell with the one of the best sounding exhausts on the planet, and women will want you purely for that car.  You'll get sick when you're done with em, but that's alright,  You have a Challenger.  This is of course dependent on you getting the hemi option, if you don't you can kiss all that good bye.

SRT8's are no fun and get horrible gas mileage.

Unless you get a manual, and then if you drive friendly, you'll beat the sticker highway rating.

Don't get one.  You don't want a big fun car that's great for cruising.

Because my pontoon has better handling?

Much better cars to spend jack on.

2011+ cars handle much better than the 08 to 10.  Test drive one.

It is over weight and under powered for what it is.

Sure, get one.  I'd recommend a '70 or '71.  I'd recommend a 383 or a 440.  The 426 prices are out of sight.  Either an A833 or a 727 torqueflite will be fine.  Both are hell for stout.

Don't buy a Dodge Challenger.

Darn good looking cars. Not crazy about the lowered roofline (Mustang kept truest to heritage, then Dodge, the Camaro is a piece of Angela Corey's descending colon)

Buy it and have fun (new or used, I prefer the latter, YMMV) then sell it when your S/O complains, and get an NFA toy to make up for it.

My buddy has a '13R/T with the six speed.  He let me test drive it - 3k miles on the clock.  Disclosure - I have an '06 300C AWD, so I'm a bit biased towards this platform.

Steering is much more forgiving than my darty 300, but still crisp.  Exhaust at full throttle is awesome.  Six speed is a bit clunky but solid - buddy has installed a short-throw shift kit.  Clutch takeup was linear and smooth.  His was the dark blue metallic color - very sharp.  I don't like the racing stripe.  Lots of axle hop at launch in first, however a rolling start in second yields a smooth, strong, enjoyable, quick trip to about 75.  Nice ride, comfortable seats, suffers from the same high beltline of the 300 - some folks don't like outward visibility.  I'm used to it.

I would buy one for the money.  I prefer something like the Charger to the smaller, less-comfortable pony cars like the Camaro and Mustang.  I drove a '12 Camaro - stiff ride, uncomfortable seats - it made me feel old (I'm 45).

We had an SRT8 Challenger cop car come in on trade at work. I drove it for a couple days- had the Mopar intake, ECU mods, Mopar exhaust etc. What sucked was not being able to actually speed since anyone in front of me would lock on the speed limit. Opened it up several times and it was great fun, but I think it would get old as a daily driver.
What matters is if it's what you want. Life is too short to drive a car that doesn't make you tingle somewhere.

We just had this thread.

Rented one for a week. Beat on it every day. Decent pickup. Corners like a wounded whale. Would not purchase.

Wait for the 2015 model year for the full interior upgrade if that matters to you.

It is fun to cruise in and mash the pedal but that's about it. If you took that car on a nice twisty back road you'd become one with an oak tree

Overweight, meh on the power, and its a fucking Dodge.

I want a '70 Challenger bad. There is a 73 440 for sale in town I wouldn't mind having.

The Mustang is a far better car.

In my opinion, all 3 muscle cars from the "Big Three" suck ass.  But the Mustang is deceptively fast and sucks the least ass.  It handles the best and looks the best.

Get both.

I do wish it was lighter, tho.

I love my mustang. In my opinion its the best of all the "new" muscle that's come out. And I average 22 mpg in DC metro traffic

But a challenger was my next option if I couldn't find a mustang that fit my budget.

Both are fun cars to drive.

Unless you drive the challenger hard, you wont notice the handling in my opinion. Driving it like a daily driver feels smooth.

But for that 4% of the time you want to drive it hard, you'll notice in a hurry.

But that's just my uneducated opinion

Charger with a Hemi instead?

I always like the looks of the Charger. Then last week I got a chance to ride in one....

I am a 6' fat boy and getting in and out of that car was a pain. I will stick with trucks.

Weight.

It's all about the HP to weight.
On top of that, weight also affects braking and handling.

Even the the most expensive highest performing heavy vehicles with amazing hardware are trying to overcome the weight of the vehicle.

We just had a rental one for 30 days because of a car accident. They look awesome and are fun to drive but massive blind spots. I thought it was basically pretty terrible.

If you want a muscle car, get an old Mopar.
If you want a pony car, get the new Mustang.
