This might have been posted here before but I felt it was worth sharing anyway. As a dad of a 2 & 1/2 year old little girl, there are a lot of thing in here that seem worth keeping in perspective in this crazy world. Of course I will add a few like teaching her how to shoot and field strip and clean weapons, but all of these seem pretty good too. ...damn allergies.... |

I'm a dad to twin 3.5 year old daughters and a 1 year old daughter.
I'll be saving this. Thank you. |
still reading.....
but the shoes.......my oldest (4 yrs) was pretty upset when her pink cowgirl boots didn't fit anymore.....she couldn't wear boots like daddy |

29. If her mom enrolls her in swim lessons, make sure you get in the pool too. Don’t be intimidated if there are no other dads there. It’s their loss. View Quote Always surprised at the number of dads I see at the pool sitting in chairs watching. |

mine turns 2 in 2 weeks, and for the fathers of sons try Father Forgets

#4 says it all.
Mine's 21 now. I still cry *ahem*, have an allergy attack, when I hear the song Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle. |
I have done most of those with my daughter who is now 14.
It is the most unbelievable thing in the world to raise a daughter. |
14 and 17 year old daughters, and I agree with quite a bit of it.
As a father of 4 daughters, ages 15-30, I'd score this one 50 out of 50.

I wish I'd seen this 28 years ago.
I did many of the things listed, but not often enough, or nearly enough of them. For what it's worth, I experienced the joy of attending my daughter's (and precious only child's) wedding just a few weeks ago. In the period leading up to it, and since, I've spent much time reflecting on her childhood and my actions as a father. You guys with young (and not-so-young) daughters, read this and take it to heart. Once the time has passed, there's no getting it back. I take great comfort in the fact that she chose a good, honorable man who I have no doubt will take good care of her. |

My daughter just graduated and is going to start college in a month. It seems like she was just a baby a couple years back, and now she turned into her mother.

I took my oldest daughter fishing yesterday morning. She caught three fish (well, one managed to wiggle off the hook before she could bring it to shore). The two we brought home are cleaned and wrapped in foil ready to go on the grill with some butter and lemon juice. Now, in the past month all of my girls have gone fishing with daddy and caught fish. My girls are already competing over who gets to go fishing with daddy tomorrow. I love it.

You motherfuckers.
Since school got out, my wife and I have been staying up later since I don't have a set time to be in to work and we obviously don't have to get the kids up. Regardless, they (12, 9 yo girls, 6 yo boy) are up by 7, but my lazy ass stays in bed until almost 8 then I head straight out the door for work. I've been thinking I need to spend more time with them before summer's over but their mom and I don't always get a lot of time during the school year so I've been focusing on that. The thing is, most people that know us would probably say I get to spend more time with my kids than other dad they know btu it doesn't stop me from thinking I can/should do more. Reading stuff like this will not help, even though I need to be reminded occasionally. |

Great list, thanks.
As a dad of a 18 mo old baby girl, my addition: #51 - tell her not to love her first boyfriend too much, because I will be killing him and mounting his head on the gatepost as a warning to subsequent admirers. |
i got pretty sad a few weeks ago....
my youngest had her third bday.....and it dawned on me, she's lost her baby face..... i remember when i realized that about her older sister, too... neither of them are babies anymore, they are little girls now.... the little things become so obvious......looking in the rear view mirror. |

I have been lucky to have been a Stay-At-Home Dad for 14 years.
I have watched my Son and Daughter grow. I was there for the first time they pulled themselves up on the coffee table, to their first steps, their first words and the first time they used the potty. I vowed that one of us would be there for that. I did not want to find out from a daycare worker. I have taken them shooting, camping, fishing and hiking. We have expended thousands of 22lr rounds over the years. We have been military museums and crawled around a B-17 and a B-24. We have stood on the tarmac of our local airport and watched a F4-U Corsair and P-51 D land. They stood next them, as the engines ran, with smiles the size of Texas. Since they have been old enough, I have tried to make each summer an adventure. I wanted to make them think back and remember things like I did, when I was a kid, hanging out with my Grandpa. We went to the Patton Museum every summer and at Christmas. Right up until them moved it to Ft. Benning. The day we were there and found out it was moving, both my kids cried, I had to wipe my eyes, remembering the year I spent there as a kid and the years that they will now miss. They grow up fast, too fast. Next year my Son get's his learner's permit to drive and my daughter turns 12. Enjoy the time you guys have with them |

I have four more months until my 1st child enters this world. I cannot wait for her arrival.

Love on 'em while you can boys.
I always said I figured my daughter was on loan to me from God until she was 16. Because at that point the outside world starts creeping in. Now she's in her second year of college. She's had the Highest GPA in a Pharmacy program for two years. Got her mom's looks and dad's brains . Straight A's in HS and lettered in two sports. Didn't have her first boyfriend until she was a senior and dumped him when she caught him cheating on her. No I didn't kick his ass ... seeing him crying in the front yard when she handed him the few belongings she had in the house was enough. Go home right now and give them a hug, they grow up way too quick. |

Teach them everything you know...
listen to them..... Take time to let them perform everything for you.... When you pick her up this summer from Grandma and Grandpas house give her that Cherry Starburst Les Paul she has been wanting all year and those 5th row center tickets to KISS this summer. You wanted the best you got the best the hardest rocking band on Earth!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONKEY!!!!!! Guess who won the best dad in the world award.....this guy!!!! |

I have 3 daughters and a son.
My dark hair has skipped gray , and gone straight to white. |
Mine are 14 and 20. I miss the time when they were little so much.
Many of those are actually pretty good.....unlike most father/daughter list.
This thread kind of makes me hope my wife and I have a girl next.
Awesome list. With Three daughters I missed some of them but think I did better with each one.
Great! I try to do a lot of these things, but I think I'm going to have to step up my game cuz my kiddo is worth it
As the proud dad of a 7 month old daughter, these are all excellent bits of advice. Thanks for sharing!
My little girl is 10 and I already did most of that list, although she plays soccer, not baseball, and she's not into fishing. I hadn't thought of the letter on her birthday. That's not a bad idea.
Thank God she's not interested in boys....yet. |
Great list! My daughter is 4, soon to be 5, and it's pretty damn dusty in here
Good advice that brought back a lot of memories of my two girls growing up.

glad I had boys. you guys with daughters dont forget all the stuff you did to girls when you were a teen who at the time were somebody's daughter.
My little girl is laying on the couch beside me watching Sofia. By the gas I imagine she is brewing a nice diaper treat for me. I still love her though. I don't really want her to grow up. |

He should try saying that to my daughter...he would lose a few teeth. |

That was sweet.
I just realized something--for you men with children, especially daughters--if you truly follow these guidelines, you become a better man. I thought that only happened from your Wife |
My little girl is on her way in 1.5 months. I always thought I wanted a boy, but this girl thing makes you think a lot more about being a strong male figure in her life.

Stepdaughter was 10 when I came aboard. That new dad thing lasted until the first big "No."
I did my best. Much of it stuck. I'm proud of her. She's in the Navy, now. Made another stripe. Doing very well. The best thing you can hear on the other end of the phone is, "You were right, Dad." It's good to know she was listening. |
