I used to help a childhood friend split wood with one of those spiral cones when I was a kid.  Probably 23 years ago.  Worked well.

My old man and I mounted a screw splitter onto a post hole digger for the skid loader.

It worked like a champ splitting 4' long logs for his outside boiler.

After seeing a few pieces get loose and free spin on a PTO shaft I wojld have to say he is nuts. Not to mention it could gain traction from a log it couldn't split and drive off the jack stands.

Years ago a very good friend of mine and I shared a semi load of firewood.



He had a Farmall Super M.  The tractor ran the buzz saw on one end and a spliter like that in the vid.



That was one scary piece of gear.  It worked but it was dangerous as hell.
