Wife and I saw his lastest flick, "Bullet To The Head" over the weekend. Gawd, am I glad I didn't go to a theater to see this. I woulda been throwing crap at the screen. When you get right down to it, if it only had a new script, different actors, better direction, and maybe a better title, it would have been okay. The only redeeming factor it had was for a brief moment, a virtual split-second, Sarah Shahi was naked. That alone did not make it worth the PPV fee, but it was better than if she had remained clothed the entire time.
So my question is: Stallone; is it time for him to quit trying to be relevant, or was it all someone else's fault? |
|
At this point yes.. Go away and don't screw it up any more than it is...
Though while I guess I'm behind the times until a few days ago I had no idea that he had written Rocky himself.. Always figured he just played the part not wrote the thing |
|
Not exactly. I think it might be interesting if he quit seeking out "star vehicles" for himself and instead started playing villains in major films opposite more current "stars." I'd kind of like to see him try his hand at being a particularly sinister "big bad" in a summer blockbuster or two, just for fun. But what do I know? YMMV.

If you were throwing crap at the screen you'd have shit on your hands.

I made it through the first ten minutes of Expendables 2.
I want my ten minutes back.

I stopped watching his movies about the same time he joined the Joan Rivers fan club.

Loved the latest Rambo movie but Stallone is a gun grabbing asshole so I won't see any of his latest movies unless a new Rambo comes out. He probably just derps over guns because that's the cool thing to do in Hollywood - all those actors are weak willed.

Yes. Rocky is done and hopefully Rambo will be allowed to die an honorable death.
Stallone needs to fuck off in a big way. Quoted:

"I believe in gun control. Go see my next Expendables movie." This too. How the hell someone can be so anti-gun and make so many flicks that involve a lot of violent gunplay is beyond me. |

E.g., when I was younger I loved Peter Weller as a protagonist, but he seems to have had a pretty good second-stage career in recent years playing bad guys. Others have done similar shifts in the way they are cast. Stallone may not be particularly good at such, but I'd like to see him give it a shot. Probably just me. |

I enjoyed "Bullet to the head", I thought it was one of his better movies. Next to the old and new Rambo, I'd say it was his best work.

He's been known to show up in a few stinkers throughout his career. I can't remember the names, they were so bad. The one where he was a truck driver/ competition arm wrestler then the one with Dolly Parton where he's a singer.

Making pornos is the upper limit of Stallone's acting ability.
Rocky could have been made by any actor with basic acting lessons and been just as mediocre. |
|
His career strategy is interesting.
Since the beginning, he has only had the talent to play 2 characters: Rocky and Rambo. Both of which were essentially violent meat-heads with different background stories. And he ran them both into the ground with too many sequels; wrenching every last dollar he could out of them. Everything else he has ever attempted has been god awful. He is a two trick pony with long-standing, powerful friends. Whenever he needs more money he exerts some leverage to pull together financing for another sequel that NOBODY wants to see. He needs to call it quits before he hurts himself. |
|
I think if you enjoy doing something, you should do it as long as you are able to. I personally don't care for him and those like him, but to each his / her own. |

Third Party Anecdotal CSB: Stallone skiing in Breckenridge and stumbles getting on lift. Lift operator comments "way to go Rambo". Rambo and entourage go ballistic, holding up lift until management shows to address slight. Operator fired.

You guys are nuts: Expendables 1 was terrible; it tried to be serious and failed hard.
Expendables 2 didn't try to be anything but a cheesy, one-liner-filled throwback to the glory days of action cinema and it succeeded brilliantly. |
|
The only thing that can explain Stallone's choice in films is that he has no taste. None.

A lot of these old celebs should. If I was in the Rolling Stones I would've quit and been living the easy life 2 decades ago.
