Indeed. Good post, Mister Nickster. One of the problems is the high level of disconnection and disorientation that the modern, high paced city creates. How many people do you know now, that you grew up with? Nobody has any chance to set down roots, or create any real bonds between people anymore. Devotion to job, created by fast paced, changing technology, whisks people away as suddenly as they appeared.
More attention needs to be devoted to the poblem that the high stress of modern life creates, and what it does to people and the quality of life.
We have been pursuing the "immediate solution" for 70 years, and nothing has changed. The National Firearms Act of 1934 places machine guns under federal licensing control. The problem has only gotten worse. Guns are less available than they have ever been. Gun Control will NEVER EVER solve the problem, because the problem isn't guns.
It's time to stop looking for the "we must act now before any more innocent lives are lost" reactive solutions, and start looking at the real causes of crime and violence. All the laws up till now have been futile in the long range. Laws merely provide a way for harmful actions to be punished. Laws don't actually prohibited anything.
Let's stop making laws, and start looking for real answers.
