I'm listening to a local DC radio station.  They are interviewing a PI with ties into the local police depts.  Here is what he just said; (info attributed to state and federal cops):

-The rifle IS a semi-auto AR type [pissed].

-The two men shot as a team-one shooter, one driver.

-The shooter fired directly [b]FROM INSIDE THE CAR[/b] in most of the shootings.  They fired from outside of the car only in a couple of the cases.  That's why shell casings were found only at a couple of the crime scenes.

-The big Chevy was modified to provide a shooting blind.  The rear seat of the car was removed to permit the shooter to lie prone, facing the rear of the car.  They cut a hole in the rear of the trunk, through which to aim the rifle.  Immediately upon firing, the driver would simply drive away.  THIS would help explain how they escaped so easily.

-There NEVER was any white van, white truck or any other vehicle.

-The shooters were stopped by authorities on at least one and possibly two separate occasions and were allowed to pass.  The PI said his sources said they were concentrating on locating one or more white males.  A black man and his kid didn't fit their preconceived profile.

-The shooters were taunting the police in at least one of their notes, saying that they had in fact had them in their grasp and let them go.

Report: Clergyman Helped Police Crack Sniper Case

(CNSNews.com) - WUSA-TV (Channel 9 in Washington) reports that one of the suspects arrested Thursday by the sniper task force went to a Virginia clergyman, who in turn contacted police with the suspects' names. The suspect went to the clergyman because he was repeatedly rebuffed in his efforts to talk to police. Sources told WUSA the suspect was very frustrated after he had been "put off, hung up on, not believed" when he tried to tell Rockville City Police that he was the sniper. Sources say this frustration led him to contact a clergyman in Spotsylvania County, Va., and that clergyman was able to tell police details only the sniper would know.



Not to mention the people at the rest area who spotted the car and stuck around watching it until the police arrived.

I think some people have some reward money coming.

I still think there has to be a larger conspiracy to this--someone put them up to this.  It wasn't for thrills or for money.

John Mohammed just delivered a wonderful gift to al Queda's cells in the USA.  He showed them how to wreak mass panic on a media-influenced part of the country.  Assuming Islamofacist terrorists don't ask for money to be transferred to a stolen credit card, nor leave rambling letters at the crime scenes, nor cry to clergy about being disrepected by police, they can kill at will and evade capture for as long as they have ammo.  Heaven help us!

Assault Weapon ban:

Features of the ban included pistol grip, removable magazine, high capacity magazines, bayonet lug, flash hider or threaded barrel, grenade launcher, adjustable or folding stock.

NONE OF THESE FEATURES would have made any difference in these shootings.

Apparently the police are so inefficient it's even pissing off the criminals.

Either that are the police were playing a deeper game, by intentionally being so dense that the sniper couldn't get any satisfaction in engaging in a battle of wits with them.

Well, our boys caused more deaths than anthrax with a $2,000 car and a $600 rifle. I wonder where they were living and what they were doing to support themselves. Sleeping in the car for three weeks? I doubt that.
