For many retail companies, the Christmas season can be half, or often more, of their annual sales. If the sniper is not caught within the next few weeks, what will this do to the retail stores from Baltimore to Richmond?

If a large percentage of people shop either by phone or on line this year, will the retail chains and in particular, the smaller mom & pops that depend on the influx of customers, be able to survive? If this hits a bunch of the strip malls and mini-malls, what effect will it have on the general economy of the area?

This worries me too.  And I think it will have ripple effects, to varying degrees, across the country.  I'm already seeing a downturn in foot traffic and sales here in Colorado.

Nah.  I live in the DC area and the malls and roads seem just as crowded as ever.  Chances of being in a car crash on the way to the mall are a lot higher than the chances of being shot in the parking lot.

Also here in the DC area, the chances of a serious terrorist attack or WMD attack have got to be higher than the risk of dying from sniper shot.
