I heard some woman in FL kept one in her cooter. It's definitely the right size for that |

Chambered in 22 Mag, makes a great pocket pistol for an old lady (my wife) with arthritis.
But it needed the oversized grip to make it easier for her to grasp. |
I carried one in a kydex neck holster for a while. Better than nothing....

Get it pointed against someones melon, chest, or neck and yes that would be practical. Beats a rape whistle.
Great for people with small hands that enjoy shooting rimfire revolvers

Wasn't there an advertisement years ago, "5oz of pure terror"?
Where are all the people who proclaim the .22lr is the ultimate survival do everything including killing a polar bear at?

They are very very well made. I know someone who carried one at a job where weapons were forbidden but being unarmed was stupid. I don't think it's at all useless.
They make for a fun range gun.
Also, they can be an effective deterrent if you are about to become the victim of a crime. NOBODY wants to get shot, no matter how small the gun. Better than nothing, as another poster put it. My dad use one as a sock gun for a while, so it can make for an alright BUG. |
"Practical use"? Whose side are you on? And yes, as stated above, better than nothing at contact distance.

I'm sure somebody will be along shortly to give you a few perfectly reasonable ways to utilize it like 007, in a British whorehouse.
The first will be "its better than nothing, or a stick or somesuch. |

Yep good to hide. One as a necklace and belt bucket nobody has ever found.
Heck yes, you can sell them to people who have never shot a gun before

It might be fun to shoot, it does not need any higher purpose

Does anyone know if there is a clip on cross draw holster for one of these?
My toddler's hand is just the right size for one of these. We have open carry here and since she is now wearing Huggies Pull-Ups... this would be perfect for her first handgun! |

Yeah. Sneak up on somene with a better gun. Shoot them and take their gun. |
They are amazingly accurate. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to actually demonstrate this accuracy.
They do sound like an effective gun when fired, very loud with that short barrel. |
Nah, you need the $20K, Diamond-encrusted 18K White Gold Model

The derringer is a little piece of history... pulled many an ass out of a crack. A .22 mag will ruin your day, that's a fact. I'd like to have a little vest gun like that, sure.

My grandfather carried one in his eyeglasses case in his shirt pocket everywhere he went.

poverty pistol tbh These NAA revolvers are some of the nicest guns made. The fit, finish and function are near flawless. |

I know a retired deputy in Broward County who carried one in his front pocket. He said if it looked like the other guy was going to win the fight and kill him, he'd use it. Other than that, not really. They are cool, though.

I know of three dead people that can attest to it's effectiveness. (the 22magnum version) Not for me though, smallest gun I carry is a Smith Airweight.

Better than a rock. Barely. One of the top drug cops in Ga was killed by one of those. During a traffic stop, shots close in avoiding the vest did him in. He was left dying beside his patrol car. DO NOT underestimate them or 22lr. |

Quoted: I carried one in a kydex neck holster for a while. Better than nothing.... A 22 around your neck is better than a 45 at home. |

There's probably a ton of people who at one point would have given anything for that gun at the time.

Seems incredibly stupid given other options. It has a place. I would want the magnum version. I believe they come in some larger calibers...don't know about this one in particular. |

A friend of mine has one. They are extremely inaccurate as you might imagine.
I think the range it's useful at, a knife might be a better option as you would be doing more damage and not run out of ammunition. |

I have had the .22 LR version, and currently I have the .22 magnum version, with a slightly longer barrel.
Using 40 grain loads in each, the LR would average about 800 FPS. There would be some variation, of course, but 800 FPS is a good average of what 40 grain .22 LR would produce. Nothing dramatically faster, and nothing way slower either. The magnum would produce about 940 FPS, part of this coming from its slightly longer barrel, no doubt. I only clocked a couple of magnum rounds. I never saw any indication of any of the hollow points I tried actually expanding, though some times the bullet would be slightly mangled. This was with several test media, mostly unscientific. No expansion is probably a good thing, as the only thing both cartridges have going is penetration. So, the .22 Magnum is about like a high speed .22LR fired from a slightly longer barrel. Probably either one would prove to be just as effective, or just as ineffective as the other one. Louder than an ice pick, with a few inches more range. |
