The WRX people are always into rallying.  Around here they hold rally crosses, which are sort of an auto cross on dirt.  Haven't tried one myself but people say they are a hoot.

Check out your regional forum here for info.  Besides, the WRX is a great car. forums.i-club.com/forums/index.php?s=

If they have ralley crosses in your area they are very low key events where people bring out their stock or modified cars and just run for fun.  I think I even saw a picture of a Justy from the last event.  That site is pretty much for all Subaru Imprezas, but you will find info on all of them.  They also have about as much traffic as we do here, if not a bit more.

Here's the 2004 WRX.  Pretty sweet looking I think.

I've been thinking about getting one when I get back for a year or so now - haven't been anyehere where they are sold to gove it a look or a test drive, though. Please tell me, what is your opinion of the allegedly sluggish acceleration prior to the turbos kicking in? That at a cheap feeling interior are the two major complaints I have read.

Seeing as how I drive a Civic hathcback now (or actually my dad's been driving it these past few years) - I'm sure I would be impressed with anything. BTW, my little civic has gone around sand dunes many were afraid to take their trucks. It always begged for more and I have only come close to getting it stuck ONCE - in very soft desert sand. Naturally, I will probably similarly abuse my next car.

Adam- Mine is an automatic, so it lags BAD, but once it hits about 3500 it just takes off. That said, I drive it around town all day without even hitting the turbo just fine.   The lag is not so bad with the MT.  Their MTs were a bit fragile and a big complaint earlier in the year, supposedly beefed up for the 2003, but that was one of the reasons I went with the auto.  If I was buying a 2003 I would go with the manual.  Check the i-club forum and you will learn just about everything concerning the car.

As far as the interior, I really like mine.  It is no BMW, but works just fine for me.  The seats are great, I like the stereo, the only thing I miss is a sunroof, though there are some aftermarket ones out there.  But you have to remember this is basically a "tin box" car with awd and a turbo.  If it was nicer inside I probably wouldn't be able to afford it.

I like the 2 door ones too, but they were never sold in the U.S., only as the RS with the 165hp 2.5l engine.  I really like my wagon though, great for the doggies.
