Putting a big hair clip on the back of a cat's neck like it's mom is picking it up.
I'd pay good money to see someone try it with an adult lion.

When we're done he just walks off and glares at us for a few minutes. Let me tell you, not "scruffing" him is cruel. He stresses and fights and puts himself and us in danger of injury. After a session like this we don't see him for hours. |

If we want to immobilize one of our cats, we just put a little tee shirt on them. They'll lie there, 'unable' to move, acting like they're dying.

doesnt work like that with all cats
actually only about 50% or less react like that. neither of ours have the kitty switch like in that video grab one by the back of the neck is just about like grabbing the tail might as well try and stop the blades in a blender |

We've got a 20lb Siberian which thinks it's more like 500lbs. Needless to say, shaving the critter for the hot summer months is an exercise in you'll-get-your-ass-torn-up.
May have to try something like this with him. |

It doesn't hurt the cat in any way, shape or form. They instinctively go limp when you do that because thats how mother cats carry kittens around. The grab the scruff of their neck in their jaws and carry them around.

Just did it with a chip clip on 3 of my 4 cats. 2 froze, one started purring and gently swished her tail, but that's it. All 3 went back to normal when I took it off.

If you actually looked at the picture you would see that mother cats do NOT bite the necks of kittens they carry, they carry them by the loose skin that is the "scruff" of the neck. The clip in the video is clamped more than halfway around that cat's neck... |

Just and FYI you can do this with almost any animal. During experiments in college we did it to ducklings and rabbits and they all went into a catatonic state.
Professor said it may be an internal response to being grabbed by a predator as it appears in animals that are not carried in their mother's mouths ie ducklings and rabbits. |
