It's already back. The reason you can't find it is because everytime you or I walk into a walmart and see 22 LR we think to ourselves, I haven't seen this in months. I might not see it again... I should buy as much as I can...

That right there, is why ammo is so hard to find right now.

Shelves are bare around here in illinois, with the exception of some way overpriced stuff at the LGS.  Walmart had nothing but shotgun shells and 2 boxes of hollowpoint .38.

I saw a bunch of of 12 gauge shells at my Wal-Mart the other day, but I didn't buy any since I don't currently own a shotgun. 9mm and 5.56 are what I need, and unfortunately everyone else is thinking the exact same thing.

My LGS's are getting it, rationing it because of stupidty............. and once everyone just calms down and breathes..............I'll buy all the crap they panic bought and now are selling cheap!

The next time Federal is $15 a brick and available by the pallet, I am going to build a big house out of it.  Therefore, ammo will not be coming down for a while.  Sorry.

It never went away... It's simply all being purchased before you can get to it.  Supply hasn't dwindled - in fact it's grown.  So have hoarders and those looking to turn a profit.

I'm actually NOT buying ammo I see because I want noobs to stop acting ammo-starved and butt hurt at the range.

The LGS just called me and said they got a pallet of powder in.
No word on ammo.

Not in WI; still empty shelves everywhere, unless you're looking for 22 shotshells or some odd ball caliber.

Why have you used door casing as baseboard?

You are referring to DHS hoarding enough 9mm hollowpoint to fight the Iraq War 10 times over? I suspect that may have something to do with it, as well, except that 9mm is banned by the Geneva convention and therefore can only be used against Americans. Either they're prepping for Civil War, or this is Obama's backdoor way of stopping civilians from getting ammunition (I am more inclined to believe the latter).

EVERYONE is screwing with the ammo supply- it's almost like people are worried or something .

Private parties, local police, private security firms and DHS are all in an arms race with each other.  Exciting, huh?

Locally, I saw three 400 round cases of Winchester 7.62 Nato for $450.00 apiece, a 900 round can of some variety of steel cased .223 for $350.00 and some nicer .45.

9mm and 40S&W is still gone baby gone though, so is nicer .308.  I hear there's brass .223 to be had at elevated prices but it's across town and I haven't seen it.

Do you see .22LR on the shelves at WalMart yet?

No sign of it yet. On average, the ammo I see in stores and at most sites is almost double the pre-panic price.

I hate the people buying all the ammo just to go on gunbroker and try to get $50 bucks for 20 rounds. Those people are the reason why we cant get cheap ammo anymore.

As someone has already stated.

Even when it is on the shelves....everyone buys as much as they can.

The general consensus in the multitude of times this question has been asked in a thread varies.

Stuff like rimfire and 5.56 is still tough to get. Components are tough to get.

If you want a fudd centerfire rifle round, its much easier to find something to buy as long as you aren't picky on load and manufacturer

My shelves are full. of those.  Not so easy to find other stuff.

Yeah, the ammo thing sucks. But maybe the good thing about it is that a lot of people woke up (finally) and went to buy guns for the first time and of course most smart LGS's (like mine) had to have ammo to sell with them. And they started to limit it. Is it hard for the new folks to build a supply? Yes. Expensive most certainly. But they are doing it and I applaud that.  I think (I hope..and am not a conspiracy theroist) that things will eventually calm down.  But hey, I might be fascinated by it but most of us have been through it before and don't need to look for ammo this time.

It will only last as long as it takes supply to catch up with demand, or vise-verse. Like any bubble, a lot of people will lose their shirts because they thought they could exploit it and come out on top.

Ammo is sooooo 2012.  What you need is a good cell phone plan so you can call the police while you are getting robbed, raped, and beaten.

I've been buying MORE ammo since it went to shit.  At REGULAR prices.

You just have to be persistent.

No frakking .22lr, though.

You, me, and everyone else.

As soon as the prices are affordable and the supply is there I'm picking up 50k small pistol primers, 10k WPA 223, all the 22lr I can find, and I may start reloading 223 also.
