Anybody want to open up an escort business for oil tankers? There could be an enormous market for this.

From the article:
[red]A French-owned oil tanker is on fire off the coast of Yemen after an explosion on board.
Yemeni officials say they do not consider the blast an act of sabotage, but a diplomat at the French embassy told the AFP news agency it was believed to be a terrorist attack.[/red]

I wonder if this will change the French view on the "war on terror"??

Or will they work it back to the US being at fault, for "antagonizing" terrorists.

Remember in 1986. We were bombing Lybia. France refused to let us use their airspace for the F-111s out of Britain. One of the F-111 crews hit the French Embassy in tripoli. Maybe if they hadn't been required to fly an extra 1400 miles, and had been able to sleep in a little later before the mission.....

This is a wake-up call for European nations that they are just as much at risk of being attacked by these muslim extremists as we are. Now will they change their attitude about the war on terror since this hits a bit closer to home? Or will they continue to sit on their pacifist fanny's and allow this to happen without retaliating?

Guys, remember, part of the reason the frogs are so soft on Saddam is becasue they are selling them "goods" that are on the UN's list of 1991 import "no-no's".

Like most other things in the world folks - follow the money trail.

This is so typical.

Dude - Europe has been dealing with terrorism for DECADES!  The Germans, Italians, Brits, Spanish, etc ...  they all have terrorist groups that regularly kill people, set off bombs, etc.

Where was the U.S. when the IRA blew up Lord Mountbatten?  Where was the U.S. when terrorists hijacked the German plane in Mogadishu? ...

The U.S. was not interested, because it wasn't a U.S. problem.  Don't blame the Europeans for waiting to see if Al Quaeda really is their problem, or just an american problem.  Don't blame them for treating the U.S. like the U.S. had treated them for decades.

And PLEASE don't talk about "Europeans" in general based on what SOME European countries are doing.  There are as many European countries that are behind Bush (Britain, Denmark, etc) as there are whining (France, Germans, Russia, etc.)

Just my $.02

The Europeans need to be with the United States on this because they are in Missile Range from the Middle East.

Seems to me that the point being missed here is that the price of oil will go up across the board for EVERYONE not just the French.  That it was a French point is not important.

If the other countries don't care if it is their problem or not, why is the U.N., which they are a part of, requires the U.S. to get their approval ?

I don't so much have a problem with the European nations because they aren't sending troops to fight alongside us. That's not what I am saying at all. But what I do have a problem with is the nations who not only don't support us directly, but badmouth our efforts as well. In other words, if they don't wanna help us, fine. But they should just stop whining and calling our efforts to root out terror "immoral" or "dangerous" for world peace.

Now, I realize that some European nations are active in the fight....namely Britain and a couple of others. But it seems the majority of Europe isn't exactly with us in this fight or even interested in terrorism, period. And as I asked earlier, will France retaliate for the strike (if it was terrorism) acting in their own defense, or will they sit on their butts? Knowing how they are, my money is on the latter.
