I like to know if the composition of silica sand (silicon dioxide SiO2)is the same as playsand, quartz sand, and "glass" sand?
If so, is silica the scientific term for the common names?

Sand refers to a particles size. There are dozens of different types of sandstone depending upon numerous factors. A sandstone that is primarily silica would be a quartz arenite. Which would mean the rock was formed from quartz particles (clasts) that have been attached together to form a rock (lithified). Quartz is the mineralogical term for silicon dioxide. Silicification and silicattion are terms used to describe silica interracting in a geological system.
