Head to head? Depends on the lineup. But yeah, the Avengers have a Norse god and a Hulk.

As a die hard X Man comic fan it pains me to admit it, but the movie Avengers would beat the snot out of the movie X Men.

They killed off the movie X-Men, so it's a moot point.

They actually just finished the comic series of AvX.

They had to pull out the back roster to deal with Rogue and she pretty much just wanted to be left alone and mind the school.

The rest of the Avengers got wiped on a regular basis --- all depends on which side Wolverine was fighting on at the time.

Of course, the X-Men had some help (comic book stuff).

The Avengers movies are great.  The X-Men comics are better.  Cyclops is a badass now that he went to prison and decided to pull off the kid gloves and break things (when he can --- powers got screwed up in AvX)

Ok.  /nerd off.

Yeah Wolverine's first appearance was in a sub 200 issue of Hulk.  Can't remember
which issue exactly though.

Far as who wins, every time it's been a standstill between Hulk and Wolverine except
in the What If series where Hulk kills Wolverine.  Was one of my favorite comics.

almost all Marvel hero v hero scraps end in a standstill by design.

The hulk can pick up a mountain range and can simply slap his hands together so hard, that he could nearly drive wolverine crazy. The green version of the hulk had skin so tough even wolvie had trouble cutting him, combine that with the hulk's own healing factor and he is very tough out for wolverine.

Wolverine fighting the hulk to a standstill is pure BS.

The Chris Claremont X-Men were the best. As was the Frank Miller Daredevil books. I made a killing on the complete set of Miller Daredevil comics when I sold them.
Sold the Claremont X-Men and  Michael Golden Micronauts at the same time. Had the whole 59 issue run of those. Made some serious money on those also.

Magneto would rip Stark to shreds. Between his suit and the bits of shrapnel in him it would be over before it started.

Assuming Magneto didn't go on some stupid monologue giving Stark the chance to outmaneuver him.

In the movies...it depends.  If Prof X is alive (he was killed in X Men 3 but I think the new X Men movie has him still alive) he can take out all the human Avengers but probably not Thor.
Rogue would be able to take on the Hulk IF she could touch him without getting ripped in half first.  Of course, Rogue gave up her powers in X Men 3 as well...
Let's make it easy...the X Men from the second (and best) movie against the Avengers.
I would say that the X Men would win because of the mind-controlling powers of Xavier.  If you take him out of the equation, the Avengers win easily because of Thor and the Hulk.

In the comics...oh give me a fuckin' break.  There've been so many iterations of the X Men and the Avengers AND there are a dozen characters who've been members of both at one time or another, it's impossible to say.

I didn't even realize till the fourth time I saw the movie in the theater that Loki made that moaning sound afterward:  in the previous three screenings, the laughter of the audience drowned it out.
