There were bunches of them in late 1999. They seem to have dried up lately.

Great Site !
PlainsMansCabin.com and Ed Yourdon's original TB2K site opened up my eyes to "Preparedness" before Y2K struck.
(can I come out of my bunker yet? [:D]

AND.... hehehe

Duncan Long has good books on the AR15/M16 family, and related subjects.  Also on his site,  articles of interest, and links that may interest you.

I have a very simple SHTF kit -

1. Jeep Wrangler
2. Four Jerry cans (Gasoline, Jeeps suck down gas)
3. Glocks, Mossy 590 A1, and oh yeah, an AR-15 and a ton of ammo
4. 10 gallons of water
5. A map, allowing me to drive north to places with no guns to make "friends" with people who have food, shelter, and non landline based TV.

In all reality, the chances for long term social breakdown are SO SLIM all you really need to be able to do is be prepared to stop looters in the event od a Rodney King type riot.

Consider Lexan Windows -

Hurricane Reporter Paul - It's Windy!!!

Very true. Last night some channel or other was airing a show about Hurricane Andrew and its aftermath. Looting was definitely a problem, so was people scrounging for food, water, and ice. (They actually showed a video of people fighting over ice.)

One scene had a young girl in front of her house. There was a HUGE sign that said, "Looters will be shot on sight!". She was carrying (and handling quite irresponsibly, I might add) a STREET SWEEPER!

I challenge ANYONE to fuck with her!

Have you read "Tom Brown's Field Guide to Wilderness Survival"? by Tom Brown Jr.?
I know, there may be better, more comprehensive, manuals out there, but I love Brown's approach.
Great anecdotes.
Highly recommended.
