Do issue desert boonies (3 or 6 color)have the cammoflage inserstion strap around the headband or not?  Curious after seeing both with and without at a local surplus store.

TIA

No they don't, I guess they decided there wasn"t a need for them due to lack of foilage in desert conditions..

Gee, high school flashback time. I was wearing dessert camo eight years before the Storm. I was a fashion trend-setter. Just too early.....

Scott

P.S. My 1980s dessert camo boonie had the "foliage strap". I got it from BQM.....

I wasn't sure what y'all were referring to at first.

My issued 3-color has no such thing - I had to think about woodland ones I had seen in order to figure out what you meant, as I've not seen one in maybe 12-13 years! Ouch.

I have my original desert boonie from the gulf war. It has no band.

The ones I was issued (After going through the "shield" and the "storm" It was all Woodland till After the shootin was over) do not have the camo band.

Out of the last 12+ years that I have been in, the only ones that have that band are the wood land camo or second hand hats made in mass in over seas countries...Korea.

30 Days and a wake up.

I can only assume you mean the Tilley LT3 hat.

When the boonie hat was first issued in 'Nam, the band was to hold a mosquito net around your head. Foliage??

Camoflage insertion strap?  I thought that was for cigarettes, candy bars, fishing lures, and prophylactics. [:D]

I used to use the strap to hold a couple extra 12ga rounds. Notice I said a couple, as more than 2 will make your head tilt funny. They are also the perfect size for a Zippo.

The Tiley hat is a good one, but only comes in bright white or dark brown, not tan (they have some other colors, too, of course).  You can dye the hat to a great tan color using Rit dye.  Use Brown and Pumpkin.

A father of one of my 6 year old son's friends  was showing his Tiley hat to my son.  Of course the father showed the "secret" pocket (inside, under the crown).  My 6 year old, bless his heart, asked "Is that where you keep your wife's money?"

Yo FS... the T3 shows white and Khaki as top colors.  Undersides are different shades of green.  But the RIT dye idea sounds right.  Nothing I have stays the way I got it for very long.

Oh...must be the "new breed" of Tiley hats.  When I got mine, they only had white or brown.
