Hey guys,

I was wanting to get some opinions in regards to a report that was aired tonight on ABC World New Tonight concerning PointBlank Vests.  I would appreciate any LEOs commenting on their experiences with this product.

The report stated that approx. 900 of these vests that were in service with the NYPD were found to be defective in that they did not stop 100% of the fragments from fired rounds.  The report had a test in which several rounds of .357 Magnum hollow points were fired from a distance of about 6-8 feet.  Some fragments penetrated the vest.

A group representing the officers' union (I'm assuming) has filed a lawsuit against PointBlank charging that they cut corners in order to make a profit.

Have any of you had any experiences with this product?  Good or bad?  I just wanted to perhaps get a deeper look and or information about this, as I tend to usually not believe what I see on the nightly news.

Funny.. at last years SHOT show the guy from point blank tried recruiting me as an independant sales rep.  Glad I had enough sense to not take him up on it!

I believe it was Wave who started a thread on this a few months back - I'd find it for you if I wasn't already running late. Try searching back a ways, you oughta find it.

One thing in the ABC report that seemed to be missing was what level vest they were testing and what performance standards the company had set for these particular vests.  Also what DOJ standards these vests were supposed to meet.

The report also failed to state the age of the vests and how much they had been worn, although they inferred that they were fairly new.
