First it was "Boogie Nights".
Now this...

Val Kilmer to play late porn king
Tuesday, October 1, 2002
NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Val Kilmer will play late porn king John Holmes in "Wonderland," a movie about the 1981 involvement of Holmes and his teenage lover in a quadruple homicide, to be distributed by Lions Gate Films, Variety reports.

Producers and Lions Gate also are in advanced negotiations with Josh Lucas ("Sweet Home Alabama"), Kate Bosworth ("Blue Crush") and Lisa Kudrow to co-star. Christina Applegate and Kevin Pollak are in talks to join the cast.

Shooting will begin in Los Angeles in early November under the direction of James Cox ("Highway").

The script, based on the true tale of the murders on Wonderland Avenue in Los Angeles, was penned by Todd Samovitz, D. Loriston Scott, Captain Mauzner and Cox.

"What always interested me in this project is the truth of the incident," Cox told Daily Variety. "True crime has always been a passion of mine. But this was not just a murder story. There is also a unique love story, elevating this film above noir crime and making it universal."

Cox said he and the other writers had, after looking over all the second-hand material on the murders, interviewed Holmes' ex-wife and his girlfriend at the time. Both have been involved in the project creatively.

Cox said Kilmer was always his first choice to play Holmes, who died in 1988 of AIDS complications.

"Wonderland" is not the first project inspired by the Wonderland murders: Killer Films and Magnet Entertainment are developing "Superstar 81," penned by Tristan Patterson, which like "Boogie Nights" sets a fictional protagonist in the porn world.

In a few years there won't be any difference between XXX-rated movies and "R-rated" mainstream Hollywood entertainment.

The've done full-frontal (both male and female) in so many movies it's boring.

And they've simulated hardcore sex to the point of showing shadowy penetration in films too (Basic Instinct, etc.)

And they've already shown "fake" money-shots hanging from the ear of Ben Stiller (Something About Mary) and the "funny" hosing-down of a half-naked girl down with a massive load (Scary Movie).

Even pedophilia isn't even a new "milieu" anymore.

There really ain't nothing left except...
..."Release the hounds!!"

Hollywood still has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to creating names for movies.  E.g.,

Hollywood: Batman and Robin
Porn: Dickman and Throbbin'

Whats more interesting is, the number of porn stars turning mainstream Hollywood!

Tracy Lords and Ron Jeremy come to mind
Jeremy has a few different names that he often goes by in regular movies

Why the hell would they devote a movie to that coked up loser who got a bunch of innocent bystanders killed in his "rip off a drug kingpin" scam?

John Holmes was truely a complete piece of coke addicted/aids infested shit. He deserves nothing to be remembered by. It's just too bad he wasn't tortured to death like the other people were.

Pffft!

Did you NOT read what the director of this fine film had to say about it???

I suppose the fine nuances of this 'romantic tragedy' is beyond your narrow-minded, troglyditic grasp you uncouth boor! This is a bittersweet "love story"!! Like Romeo & Juliette.

How DARE you be so judemental of such a beloved and talented actor as Mr. Holmes - whose only crime was being a victim of the horrendous disease AIDS which was inflicted upon him by the ignorance and prejudice of Ronald Reagan and all you other hateful conservatives who did NOTHING to help him or others like him during the 80s!

Again I say, Pffft!

Not sure why you re assuming that the film will be porn, just because one of the people involved in the incident being documented was a porn star.......

No. Not that THIS movie will BE pornographic, just that the subject and all of the and elements of porn (gratuitous nudity, f@cking, jerking off, moneyshots, etc.) are becoming common-place themes in mainstream movies and TV shows.

I've noticed it too.  Anybody seen Requiem for a Dream?  Pretty graphic stuff.  All I can really say is, so?  Does it really matter?  If you find it offensive don't watch it.  I find almost everything I watch on TV or in the movies disturbing and distasteful.  When I have children (God forbid that happens), I'm getting rid of the TV.

Let the make their lousy movie.  Just make sure you don't buy another movie ticket ever again.  Don't rent movies either.  You may not realize it but a portion of every ticket sale and movie rental reciept goes to support liberal causes.  That's right - Hollywood dipshits get paid big bucks for their lousy movies and TV shows and contribute heavily to Democrat fund raisers, Brady gun grabbers, abortionists, etc.  Every time you go to the movies you are supporting gun grabbers you moron.

No man is an island.

The problem is I live in an extremely vulgar society where pornography, obscenity and sexual perversion is not just tolerated but now actually celebrated. That's not the culture I grew up in. The endless avalanche of images and messages that celebrate hedonism,  sex, perversion and obscenity has rotted this nation's sensibilities.

No wonder people can't think or act rationally anymore.

Porn has been around forever. But if you wanted it, you had to look for it. Now, there is no escaping it.

This doesn't bother me so much. You have to pay and decide to see a movie.

Far worse is network (not cable/satellite) TV and crap like Will & Grace or Melrose Place where homosexuals and other liberal PC crap is on in prime time.

"Daddy why are those two men kissing?!?"

When mainstream Hollywood starts fisting, scat, golden showers and gangbangs then I will start to worry. Other than that, its just movies.

Also what Steyr said. Don't like the rating of the movie, don't go. Don't want your kids to go, then watch em closer.

Give it time.

What is shockingly offensive or obscene today is mainstream entertainment in 20yrs.

Simulated beastiality, scatophilia, simulated c@mshots and "provacative" pedophilia already ARE becoming common in movies and TV shows today.

What was X-rated 30yrs ago is now PG-13.

"Last Tango In Paris" and "Midnight Cowboy" were rated X. Today they're bland compared to what's on MTV "Real World", "Jackass" or Howard Stern's radio broadcasts.

I really don't care what's in movies. It's the overflow that is now nearly ubiquitous in TV shows, music, magazines and advertisements - they ALL have gotten excessively sexualized to cater to the overpaid and hypersexualized yutes of this country.

The Porn industry employs thousands of moderately attractive but completely untalented actressess who otherwise would be on the welfare rolls.

Thanks to the Porn and Strip club industries no young woman ever has to worry about not being able to find a job.

Heheheh.  Wait till you guys hear about a movie called Auto Focus.  It's a biography of Bob Crane, aka Colonel Hogan [shock]

If you dont know anything about Bob Crane's personal life, he was a sex fiend and amateur porn filmmaker. It's hard to believe they made a movie out of his life.

Now that you mention it, he DID seem to smile an awful lot.[;)]

Seemed like the old movies at first emulated life, with the restrictions of "good taste" and "discresion".
Then the movies caught up with "real life", with the suggestions of sexuality and muted violence, included but "protected" by ratings.
Now it seems as if the movies are "the tail wagging the dog" and actually setting the pace for corruption. Violence, deceit, child sexuality.

I'm with SteyrAUG on the objections to the open homosexuality on "sitcoms" these days.  It will soon escalate to simulated sodomy, unfortunately.  Like any other indoctrination, you desensitize the objectionable by repeated and increasingly graphic exposure.

I am amazed at things I've seen on MTV, the "kids" music station and thanks to slick Willie, my teenage daughter's friends (and assumably she as well) have some odd ideas about what actually constitutes having "sex".
