Sounds crazy, but its true. I was talking to one of my German friends today, former Bundeswehr, and the German government is destroying an estimated 300,000 G-3 battle rifles next year so as to comply with UN mandates to stop the "proliferation of small arms". These aren't just beat-to-hell G-3's - some most likely are still new in box - never been used from as far back as the 1960's. I've seen some German Reserve forces here use the G-3 since I've been over here but most use the G-36 rifle now. Crazy, but then again this is Europe......

The Clinton Administration, in its zeal to disarm the citizenry, was well on its way to the program’s destruction. It had already destroyed 3 million usable, valuable and in some cases historic firearms, sometimes at the rate of 3,000 a day; when last year, thanks largely to the efforts of Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) a moratorium was imposed on the Clinton program of wanton destruction.

Already destroyed were venerable M1903 bolt-action Springfields, M1 Garands, M1 carbines -- including rare variants -- Model 1911A1 pistols (including one of only 500 made by Singer in 1942, valued by collectors at $13,000.) All paid for by our taxes! In one ten-day period alone last July, our federal government turned 19,000 bolt-action .22 rifles, including new-in-the-box unfired Oregon-made Kimbers, one of the finest bolt action .22s in the world -- into junk!

Only when you are talking on somebody else's dime can you do such BS things such as destroying perfectly good rifles to comply with with nebulous mandate. But then again, I would mind getting a few extra trigger packs and barrels courtesey of the GDR taxpayer.

As a side note, did you know that the British dump all of the guns, that American citizens gave them during WW2, into the channel?

And recently they dumped a considerable number of FALs into the channel.

Uh Oh!

ATF rules that the G3s were not properly demilled according to US standards.  Hence, all BMWs and Mercedes Automobiles made with steel of lot XXX (containing recycled G3s), and imported to the US, are subject to confiscation, and their owners subject to arrest.

Germany is quite a bit different from the US with gun laws as well. For example, they do not have a ban on high cap. magazines - you're just not allowed to USE them in certain weapons..huh?
..."Why,yes officer that HK USP magazine is for my ummmmm.....Savage .22 bolt action......".

It actually looks like some military style semi-autos will become LEGAL over here next year due to a change in German gun laws - even though everything must be registered here like an NFA weapon in the States.

Even though firearms are much more restricted here, I've noticed that most gun owners seem to put more into their hobby then in the States - like bringing their firearms to the States to have custom work done on them by the manufacturer. I also found it interesting that AR-15's are commercially available here - they're just the neutered politically-correct versions.

In any case, I return to the land of black rifles in November - my AR's, FALs, AK74, etc - far far removed from Europe's socialist utopia for good. Not to mention the US Army where they don't let us shoot anymore except to qualify for 10 minutes a year.

For those who see these as future kis, think again. ATF has deemed these "parts" that "could" be assembled into illegal configuration assault rifles as UNIMPORTABLE.

This is why all the G3 kits in really good condition are gone.
