So, obviously there's got to be a little money in it, right?

I'm just guessing here, but I wouldn't be surprised if the top earners like nuntfancy or hickok45 made five grand a year from advertisement clicks.

The high traffic channels make much more than 5 grand a year from ads. Some will pull that in a month.

Here's a list of 10 youtubers that were making more than $100k/yr 3 years ago:

ETA: nutnfancy has 124,954,639 views and hickok45 has 133,624,997 which would put each of them close to the 100k mark (assuming ad revenue per video view is similar to those on the other lists).

I have friend who does it for a radio station, she quit her job as Emergency Manager to do it. So my guess is the pay has to be good. Then again she's also a model, is a social media in disasters subject matter expert, and has something like 100K twitter followers.

Been putting a few vids up, doing different little reviews and such. No high end production or anything really nice. I am pulling in about 15-20.00 a month sitting back and watching the numbers come in.

Pretty sure FPSRussia is smashing everyone on that list, currently.  Looks like that article is from 2010.

Last I heard, FPSRussia is making millions per year off of his videos alone.

YouTube pays 1$ for 3000 hits

1,000,000 views = $333

No.  Let me go find the #'s.  FPSRussia is making millions per year.  Trust me.

Google-fu is failing me.  There was a big thread on FPSRussia and how much he makes, before.

There isn't a set pay scale.  How much your pay scale is, depends on your subscriber base, # of views, ads on your channel, ad clicks, etc.  We have members here who make money off YouTube and they explained it clearly.  If only I could find that old thread.

But I know that it's not "1,000,000 views = $333".  Maybe at some extremely low pay scale it is.  But not for people like FPS and a few others.

I'm a Youtuber. I have a successful channel, with a couple million views and 22,000 subscribers. I am getting around 20,000 views a day across my channel.  If I take what I make and extrapolate it with the views that FPSRussia gets, he makes well over a million a year.  The reason it's hard to know what youtubers make is because we are not allowed to publicize it.  But I can tell you that the $1 per 3000 views is way low.

So basically I set up a YouTube channel, post something that will get people to subscribe, and the cash starts rolling in???? There has got to be more to it than that right????

Somebody please explain this to me.

Thanks

That's the difficult part, post something original and interesting, then you have to promote it and hope it goes viral, then you have to repeat all of that every few days with a whole new video to get new subscribers and new views from your old subscribers, and then you need to keep doing that without major breaks for months and years just go get near to the big players.

It's not a get rich quick scheme, it's lots of hard work and lots of luck.

You have to have all of the rights to what you post an create a google Adsense account.  Also people have to actually watch it.  I only make like ~$8 a month and don't see a check until it reaches $100.
