Any benefit to keep using super? I have since I got the truck... But with gas prices rising and a baby on the way, looking to cut back expenses. By god I don't want to get rid of my Rammer!

You really don't need it with that motor.All octane is,is a fuels resistance to detonation,so if it isn't pinging and the manual doesn't tell you to use it,don't worry about it.

The manual for my 300C says to use 89 octane for "optimum performance," but 87 is fine, too.  If you run 87 all the time, the computer just adjusts the timing to prevent detonation.  Only difference is the engine will be putting out a few less HP.  You probably won't even notice.  Mine goes like stink regardless of octane....

My work car has the 5.7 hemi and I only use 87.  If the motor doesn't call for it you are wasting money.

I was told to use premium when I was towing something for my 4Runner, not necessary for daily driving.

If you are not towing or otherwise working the engine hard, the computer will adjust for 87.  Switch to 89+ if you are going to actually use that Hemi though.  Best to switch a bit before you need it.

What's your manual say? Should say 89 octane minimum.

I use mid grade 89 octane. After 22 thousand miles I can tell the difference. Runs much smoother and pulls like a freight train. On my old 2008 with the 345 HP Hemi I couldn't tell the difference. The newer 390 HP I can tell.

The Hemi's love Penzoil Platinum oil and Shell mid grade gasoline.

I can get about 375 miles per tank with that combo and a light foot.

I have a 4x4 crew but I do have 3:55 gears in it  though. They really help with mileage....

Cruising down the highway I can get 23mpg in Texas on semi flat terrain. I'd like  to get a newer one with the 8 speed transmission....mines a 2011 Sport.....so I still have the old 5 spd.

The manual says to use 89 octane ......or "recommended". Unless you tune it you are blowing money out the tailpipe because 93 octane will not make a difference. They run fine on 87 as well, just not as smooth.

OCTANE IS NOT ABOUT POWER.  If your owner's manual says you can use 87, then use 87.  You get NOTHING from using higher octane gas.

Most modern engines will retard the ignition timing if you use a lower grade fuel, so you may lose power by using lower grade fuel, but you will not GAIN power by using higher than your engine requires.

Use what the engine is made for.

Hell, mustangs making over 400hp are still rated at 87oct.

I use the 87 because I don't want to put ethanol in my vehicles as well.

You do realize they put ethanol in EVERYTHING, right?  Depending on your state, gas stations are required to put a label on the pump saying something like "this fuel may contain up to 10% ethanol".  Otherwise, unless it specifically says it does not have ethanol, it probably does.

Is this the 5.7 Super Magnum Nitro Express Das Loudenboomer Hemi version we're talking about, the 5.7 Super Magnum Nitro Express Hemi, the 5.7 Super Magnum Hemi, the 5.7 Super Hemi, the 5.7 Hemi, or just the plain ol' garden-variety 5.7?

I ask because it makes a difference.
