The AWB will be offered as an amendment. But as others have noted, that faces almost certain death.

They might manage to get a light version of a universal background check into law (loaded with exceptions and additional protections against registration) but that's it.

Nope, the reverse is true. This gives Senators from purple districts who may be facing tough re-election fights an easy out to vote against it. Politico theorized it might not even get 35 "for" votes as an amendment.

AWB2 is extremely unpopular, and UBC is becoming the "common sense" idea that only radical NRA weirdos will oppose.

UBC will be offered as the main bill and AWB2 will be held in reserve until the next mass shooting.

This is a step in the right direction but we are not out of the woods yet.
