I've been all around LA County looking for ammo (5.56 / .223) and while I've been largely unsuccessful, I can't help but notice (as did others in line) that almost every store I'm in DOES HAVE plenty of  .30-06, .270 Win, and .300 Win.

Sucks for me because I don't have anything in those calibers...but wondering now if I should have

Just buy the ammo and one day you can trade it off or buy the gun to shoot it.

Well that's what I would do.

Don't forget 7mm because there's shitloads of it on the shelf at the wal-mart here.  I guess because west texas dog size deer need the ever-living shit blown out of them.

I've been considering building up a .300 Win Mag as of late. I guess now would be as good a time as any. I have a Ruger M77 MK2 in .30-06, but it's my deer rifle and is nothing fancy.

Plenty of 10mm and .17hmr.

If you get a 10mm you can pretend you have a powerful gun.

8mm and 7.62x54r are still available, and for about the same price, I'm tempted to buy a hakim, or fn-49 as future panic protection.

Even the shotgun ammo here has been disappearing at frequent intervals.  Walmart seems to do a pretty good job of restocking it quickly, .22LR, .45. etc on the other hand......

I have a .22-250 lone eagle -- ammo is always in stock.  I need to get optics for it and then I might start shooting it.

Off-beat stuff I don't think I've ever heard of like 480 Ruger or 460 S & W

7.62x54r and .40 S&W seemed to do well. Glad I have weapons in both calibers, will have way more soon. In November, I bought a conversion barrel for my Glock 22 to shoot cheap 9mm ammo.. LOL.

I have a .270 and shoot it a lot. That being said, the cheapest ammo you'll ever find for it is around $20 for a box of 20 rounds. Might as well pay retard prices for .223 or 5.56.

Seems to be plenty of 9mm in Los Angeles.  Picked up a 250-round value pack today (.30/round FMJ) just because I'll shoot it, even though I wasn't looking for it.  They had plenty more and I've seen it around.

I forgot to mention also plenty of 7mm and .45acp around LA

I bought a 270 win bolt gun in this madness.  The gun was cheap, and the ammo plentiful.  I had been contemplating getting a gun in this caliber for awhile anyways...but seeing ammo for it plentiful during this time solidified my desire for one.

Good gun too.  Two weeks later, it took its first hog.  :)

Can't you get an AR pattern rifle in .243?

The most plentiful cartridge seems to be .270 Winchester.  Certainly at WalMart it is the most common, although even so, there weren't that many boxes on the shelves, and they wanted $60 per box.  They also had small quantities of 7mm Remington Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum, and .410 and 20 ga. shotshells.  I think I saw a box of another cartridge, but that's about it.  No pistol ammo.

The local gun shops have a larger variety, but limited quantities no matter what the cartridge is.  They are also all charging exorbitant prices.  They almost all have 8X56R, though; probably the only thing I saw that didn't have its price raised, although the shops here have always wanted a bit too much for it (no point in paying $1.50 per round when I have been able to get it on clips for 75 cents per round, until recently).

9 pellet 00 Military Buck from Federal at every store here. Slugs too. Tactical enough for me.

I might take a picture if I go to walmart later. Typically you've got 12ga military buck, a few boxes of slugs, some 8-shot crap, some random 20ga, some .270/7mm/.22-250 or such and a lonely box of .45 Colt.

Handgun or common riflle rounds, or anything rimfire equals SOL... But shotguns are G2G.

There was a thread a while back on that "military 00 buck".
